Tamiya 1/16 Wehrmacht Officer

I recently enjoyed completing this for the figure campaign, so I got another in the range. Plus Bob did ask me to be a bit more elaborate on what I did with the pens.
Apologies in advance to all the real figure builders who will probably slap their foreheads and say "what the 'kin' hell is this joker doing?" :woohoo:

A blue and lead pencil in the eyes, sealed with some Humbrol clear -

I find using a pen easier as you get a constant flow of medium, it's thin and you can quickly wipe off anything you don't like. They also blend well with each other. BTW these are from the skin tone pack of artist pens made by Faber & Castell -

Just drawing the shadow areas in the darker colours for a pre-shade if you will -

It's going to look cacky-poo-poo at the moment LOL -

Blu-tak to mask the eyes -

A very thin coat of Tamiya wooden deck tan sprayed on -

More shading applied with the pens -

Then a spray of Tamiya flesh mixed with buff -

Bit more shading with the airbrush - tamiya hull red mixed with flesh for a bit of shadow and tamiya flesh with white for light. I did put a little more pen here and there mainly on the ears and lips -

Next a coat of future and a thin dark brown water colour wash after that had dried -

That's enough for the skin for now - I will do some more e.g. I've done no drybrushing yet, I need to paint the eyebrows and he will get another wash etc. Mask up with more blu tak -

That's a really awesome technique Dave, very creative and the results are great!!!

Looks like a "real figure" to me...except, argh, I wish the kit looked more like the box art.

Any chance you can get the guy's hat to sit a little lower? I think that would help the overall look.

Great job!!!

Tom

Thanks guys!

Tom you're right I was just thinking that myself, I'll see what I can do - probably sand down at an angle on the chaps head or something.

Interesting idea and process Dave! The results really look quite nice! Thanks for showing it, I will be watching. :popcorn
