Tamiya 1/16 Pz IV J

Alright, to get a break from the brass work, I decided to make the convoy light functional, instead a hunk of styrene.

I glued 4 green SMD LEDs to a piece of packaging with Future (Exacto to give you an idea of the size):

Once dry, I surrounded the LEDs with Aves:

Once set, soldered in parallel and tested, I'm using a 100 ohm resistor here, the voltage on the tank is 7.2:

I covered the rear with Aves and shaped to rough kit dimensions:

I cut off the kit mount, drilled out for the wires and set it together with Aves. Once this sets, I'll clean it up and add the faceplate which will be an exact copy of the kit piece:

And in low light:

The front plate is cut out of sheet styrene, it's being glued, but needs to be painted on both sides before installation to avoid light leakage.

Took it for a spin today:

It's base coated, camoe'd and Futured, so washes will be next, followed by detail painting, stowage and weather. Still a lot more to go, but it's winding down.

I just wanted to test everything before and get to far in the details if I needed any big alterations.

A spin, I get it, hahaha...very cool Ausf!

I guess a nudge is as good as a wink. Say no more...

Thanks guys, I'll get some better footage and photos once I get the shine off of it and get into the detail work.

Looks like fun. I really like the camo scheme, looking forward to the rest of the story. (y)

Thanks guys.

IronMike, for some reason, I don't like brown on Dark Yellow (at least when I do it), so I tend to stick to two-tones. I have ref pics of this type of disruptive pattern, but truth be told, I was just going where the airbrush took me and covering up the mistakes. I use an old Iwata HP-BC2 that I've had for almost 30 years now (original needle, nozzle and same Badger compressor too) and it can be tempermental at times. If it spits or sputters, it's a new pattern. We're like an old married couple.

Hmm, someone else who uses the same paint method I do. Interesting...
