Strv 103 C the S-Tank!

Sherman 18

Master at Arms
Well with Gator posting his splinter masks, that got me thinking about this shelf queen the S-Tank. Dusted it off and messed with it some yesterday.

It is pretty much OBO, has I have hate relationship with plastic handles I replaced them. Then spent a hour and half masking off "anti slip pads".

masking (a lot of masking) tip: do this this first, before sticking the parts together if your going to do it :D

then sprayed it, took oh 5 to 10 seconds :blink

If I would have been thinking, I would have removed the pads and replaced them with cut strips of 220 grit sand paper. I believe that would have looked better.

Oh it is the Trumpeter 1/35 scale kit. Cool looking tank.

Nice! (y)
Born and raised in Sweden so i love this tank :D
Was just lookin in my box today and thought if i gonna build it, but i must wait until some other things are done :( (have my Strv. 122 left to finnish to, working on the 3 tone camo :bang head ).
I was thinking to paint mine blue and yellow (just for teasing a rivetcounter in the local modelclub  )
looking forward to see more of this, another shelfqueen getting taken from the throne!! :dance

Very cool. I have one of those also. I like the painted pads. I wonder about the sand paper, would look good also.

Thanks guys!

If I ever do this kit again I would detail it to the max. It is a nice kit.

James if you look at some of the pictures of the real thing you can see some of the "anti slip" peeling up, so that is why I would do it in sand paper.

(y) Is there alot of fit issues on the kit?
:popcorn

No really, the back corners and where front and lower hulls meet, and that is not bad. I should have sanded the primer off the gun tube, as that caused some fit issues. I would say the worst parts are the rods for the camo poles (I think that is what they are.)

I would recommend this kit to anyone. I think it is very nice.

stuck some more parts on, made new poles (kit ones can be made round, but would take a lot of time)

cut the end off the kit part and placed on styrene rod X13

started to run out of parts to stick on :blink

I'm going to leave it out in the garage tomorrow should be good and hot and do a little baking on.
I ordered some paint on Friday, not sure when it will be in and then I can start the nightmare or fun of the camo.

That's the cheme i have in mind for my 103 :D

It's looking very fine so far (y)
The poles are for the wading screen, look in the end of this test made by a swedish motor journalist :coolio

The biggest problem with the kit is that it is quite small. More like 1/38 or 1/40.

The biggest problem of the original was that it was a lousy tank.;)
Great as a tank destroyer in ambush, but flawed as a MBT.

Looks great though. I grew up watching them almost every year, since it is only about 6 miles to the training grounds. And then I did my service there as well.

yes and they suck on going over big ditches (they dig down the barrel deep in the bottom of it) :)
