Sr-71 Blackbird - 1/72 Academy

The SR-71 Blackbird... for those who love planes this one is very well known... for others ... well is something like this "Height, Speedy, Gas Sponge and takes pictures" !

A Friend of mine was a very cool guy for selling me some stuff... and so for that.. this one is gonna be a present for him! Unfortunately I had some problem with the decals but its just a fun build!

Boxart

Box and Contents

This cockpit is realy simple ... and canopy doesn't allow to much to be seen so its going to be OOB!

Masking and glueing the canopy!! Let me see if i have glue... new blade on the X-acto... Gooo!!!

After a relaxing bath with dish washer, was time for Mr Surface Primer!

The fiting is good... but i lie to be sure...

Very sure

Exhaust... Rudders ... Nose... checked!

How am I gonna do this diorama?? - you ask!!
Well this wil be on flight... and i supose very very high!

Base colour is Vallejo Black... painted fresh!!

needed some sanding

hmmm!! Pre-shade?? ou inverse pre-shade ??? thats the question!!

Home made Black... Tamiya XF-1 (Flat Black) X-1 (Black) X-69 (Nato Black) ... very thin (diluted)
It needed so many passes with the airbursh that my fingers where sore!!!! :(

Happy with the model for now!
The white might be to agressive but im sure that the varnish will take care of the rest

Gloss Varnish from vallejo...

The thing that i hate most about modeling... "applying the decals" ;) !!

I had a problem with the decals of this model...

The red stripe had a small defect and it showed a white stripe...
the photos are not the best but i hope you can see what i mean...

So with a fine brush i painted the white and red line with tamiya XF-7

To get an even effect on the overall I repainted with Tamiya X-7 (it got more reflective with the gloss paint)

Using Vallejo Varnish Matt gave a smooth feeling to the model!!

Well done on the black, really gives it the depth it needs. So how are you going to mount it?

Good job on the black. Excellent job retouching the decals .

What did you use to keep the Tamiya paints from drying up on the brush ?

Cheers, Christian B)

Very thinned and loads of patience ... I can tell you it was a pain ... didn't know how many curse words I said while doing it... but they where a lot!!!

Moon puppy truth be told I dont know???? I offer the plane to my friend and never saw it again !!! But I think he glued it to a frame with a satellite photo and hung it on the wall !!

Guys... Thanks again for the kind comments !!!

Yup, I think I have invented a few words recently myself :rotf

The only thing I have found so far for the Tamiya paints is their lacquer thinner but it dries quickly too.
