Special Hobby P-39Q Airacobra

I will keep in mind the issues you are having with this Greg. I already have some thoughts on how I might tackle them when the time comes.

Success is when it is done and you are doing a great job. Don't let the kit get you down. Also, don't forget that it might need some nose weight as it has nose gear and isn't a tail dragger.
Thanks Paul. And, I had thought of the nosegear and fortunately there is a nice opening to add weights!

Well, I bondo'd (Tamiya polyester puttied) the crap out of it. Now to see if I can salvage it!

"They couldn't decide between Polly and Esther, so the named her Dacron."
Polyester putty is new to me. I know the Tamiya super thin works to smooth the Tamiya gray putty. Have you thought about taping either side of your gap, and puttying between the tape? Sanding putty in this way can be more "targeted" and save lots of rescribing time.

The surface difference was pretty big so I had to putty significantly on either side to even up the surfaces :(
But, yeah, I have done the tape trick. Wish it cudda worked here!

Ok, FYI for anyone thinking of making this model; the kit comes with a plastic cockpit floor along with a resin floor. The instructions make no mention of this part, and honestly, it looks better than the resin part. Guess what. On the underside of the plastic part is the WHEEL WELL PART! :bash:

Glad you said that, I was reading those words and trying to figure out if I'm supposed to know them. Is this new?
I saw it on the A4 Garage Youtube channel. He uses it a lot, and he is the best modeler I have ever seen...soooo, naturally I thought if I got some I would be magically as good as he is! The fact that I blunderingly missed the cockpit floor piece for this model shows that it did not happen darn it. I was really hoping! But, this stuff smells, mixes, and acts JUST like Bondo. I think it is yellow bondo. I had to order it on Amazon. Once it is gone I will use Bondo.

Greg,

I have to admire the effort you are putting into this b#tch of. kit. By now I would have applied a roofing hammer and tossed it into the bon.

Thanks Barney, I am hanging in there.

I have made a change in flight plan mid-flight. Wheels up! So, the landing gear thing was a moot point after all. She will be flying over a cloud, maybe coming up through it. The flaps and ailerons are glued in place already so that part may not be accurate. I have ordered a pilot, and the propeller will be made of clear plastic and painted as if it is spinning. If I can figure it out I want to have bullets coming out of the guns. I have masked the glass for the doors and canopy.

Wow, thanks Paddy!

Imagine if you will, an American fighter emerging from cloud cover below with guns ablaze, dragging clouds as it sweeps in from underneath. This base is from a figure I have not painted. It will be covered in cotton and the plane will be affixed to a cotton covered white dowel. Some thin cotton streaming over the the wing in streaks. Small bright orange cotton tuft at each gun with a clear acrylic dowel coming out with 3 black streaks then a yellow flourescent streak then 3 more black. Am I right that it was 3 rounds then a tracer? The plane will be positio ed at an angle like I am holding in the photo:
