Picture help

Been thinking about starting my Spit XVIe. I decided to not clip the wings, i kinda think the beauty of a Spit was in its elliptical wing and it seems a shame to clip them. A while ago i found some really good period photo's of weatherd silver machines on the net. I have looked everywhere and now i cant find them. Spits were natural metal finish and painted with a kind of silver dope. This weathered really well to to give a whitish finish with grey chipping as the dope wore away and left unpolished alloy showing through.

Its a difficult finish to describe but i think it would be a good project finish for this kit and unusual as well. If anyone has pictures of badly weathered silver Spits i would love to see them
TIA :)

Saul you are a Genius mate :notworthy . Thats the very same picture i saw and lost :)....looks like clipped wings might be the order of the day after all ! I read the silver paint oxidised quite quickly and went into a sort of powder grey/white, if i can get that colour right the rest will be easy

I found this sea fury with the same effect

I have some metal coat Tamiya spray that is supposed to be shiny metal finish but if you give it a flat coat it turns into an anodised aluminium type finish, another option might be a mix of flat white a dash of dark grey then a semi gloss to give it a metallic look. I need to experiment i think :) Silver and flat white mix maybe ?

You can see here the RAF have a silver Spit at the moment and its not a metallic finish its quite flat but it will do for a base colour. The metallic particles you get in model paints are way too big, its like 1:1 paint on 1:32 model .
