P47 loadout

So I was surfin' around somewhere and found this picture. wish I could remember where I got it but the original I have on my puter is 3400pix wide. Nice detail can be seen.

Notice the banged up gear cover, not real sure that damage happened during this crash but you can never tell. Another thing to note is the surface it's resting on. Not the PSP planking but it looks like some heavy wire mess.

But this was what really got me

What is that load out? Obviously some cluster configuration of bombs and notice how they are strapped together by twos or threes. Thing is, this rack would only have two suspension hooks one set of cluster is on one hook, the other on the rear. Must have been some rigging to get the arming wire through all those fuses without snagging. But what are these bombs? Are the mortar rounds with aerial fuses rigged on them and a tail fin? Was this maybe a test configuration?

Another thing to notice here is the sloppy demark on the invasion stripes. looks like some white overlapping the black on the gear door. other spots look like the white does not meet with the black stripe. Just a point I'm making in case I do another invasion stripped wing....

I know for commonwealth a/c the invasion stripes where for the most part painted on over night and usually with a brush. The nice neat markings we always see are basically bogus. The cluster units are interesting. Dont see that often. The runway is interesting as especially as Marsden matting was so common. Cool pics.

These weapons have been identified by Rob Hart over at Swanny's as M1A1 Cluster bombs of 20lb M41 fragmentation bombs.

Maybe he landed with the engine off (out of fuel maybe?).
I'm pretty sure at least one blade is a goner, the one opposite the blade we see straight up.

Oh yeah, that one is a goner. I guess the engine could be seized up but the props are not feathered. But then again, I don't know if they could feather props on fighters. Maybe Saul with his P47 manual will enlighten us.

The Curtiss-Electric and Hamilton-Standard propellers used on the Thunderbolt were hydraulically feathered. This seems to be a hydraulic failure as the gear is up as well and the cowls are in the closed position.

The caption from this pic. stated it was 1945 Germany , ........... I didn't think the roundel with star in the center was in use ...........

There's more. The fact that the propellers aren't all damaged means that the engine has seized. Without feathering, propellers would windmill. Damage to both the oil and hydraulic lines could be the culprit here. A lack of oil can seize an engine.
