Orange Hobby's 1/700 Dokdo UPDATE 12/13/13

Re: Orange Hobby's 1/700 LPH-6111 Dokdo UPDATE 4/21/12

Instead of trying to paint the canopies of the helicopters, I searched for line drawings of each of the helicopters, sized them to 1/700 and traced the glass on all the doors and windscreens. I will print these out on photo paper and then copy them on decal paper using a color copier.

You could do the same with the markings and have it all on one sheet.

Regards,

Saul, the decals that came with the kit have multiple insignia for the helicopters.

As you can see, I started painting the windows of the bridge. I'll dull coat and then touch up.

Thank you Bob and James.

James, I don't know about the patience of a saint. With all four dogs and my son roaming around my desk, I've learned to multi-task. :gogo

Okay. I got the ship, LCAC and helos sprayed with Future, ready for decals. I got the decals clear coated and drying. Now it's time to turn some Kreigsmarine sailors into ROK Marines!

Think those decals could be marketable Kenny, they look good! (y)

I'll have to think about that Pup. Thanks.

Today is all about the base.

I start with a custom picture frame. If you hunt around on the internet, you will be surprise at what you can find for a really good price. Here is an example - Custom Picture Frames

For the base itself, I use Gator Board.

Next up is the water. I use acrylic latex caulk, water and a foam brush.

I apply the caulk to the base...

After spreading out the caulk with the foam brush, I take the same foam brush, dip it in water and begin to make my waves...

Once I finish, I bring it outside to bake, umm I mean dry in 97 degree (105 heat index) sun.

While the base is drying, I take the time to cut a template out of cardboard that I will use to cut away the caulk where the hull will go...

Yes, to some extent. It will keep a flexible state to it.

Re: Orange Hobby's 1/700 LPH-6111 Dokdo UPDATE 6/24/12

More progress on the water. I've cut around my cardboard template with an x-acto knife and peeled up the caulk and primed with flat white.

Test fitting the Dokdo. I'll do some airbrushing on the water to give it some depth and then clear coat it.
