I know they are German but they all look about the same really.

I sat on the ground, pushed with my legs from a crunch until my legs where straight while pulling with my arms. After a second or 2 the nut went screech and released and I ended up about a foot away from where I started and the thing was bent a bit.

I understand the mechanics of the feat but I still don't know how you bent the freakin' think. I've worked with them before, there was a big ol' dang nut and bolt that attached the ALCM pylon on the B52.

Erik I know the technique, worked well on the Commander's seat up front. But for some reason these hinges on the box has given me a fit. I attempted the standard technique then tried soldering a piece of .4mm pipe that has a .22 opening, I was going to try and string a .2 wire in there for the hinge pin but I had already over worked the parts and they would not solder. I'm convinced I can make a better hinge in this matter, just doing it is the problem.

Here's the detail on the traverse gear, I can see Watanabe-san making all this work with scratch made gears and wheels. Something I can only imagine.

Here's a dry fit of the gun mount over the ready ammo rack. Which brings up the question. What colors do I paint the ammo?

Hopefully not long. I have the scratch built stowage to do on the back and the gun mount up front. some minor details in the rear compartment but I'm thinking if the creek don't rise I'll have at least primer on the major assemblies this weekend.

The hinges may not work, but at least the transmission shifts! That's an amazing bit of work, Moon- I'm impressed.

Cheers!

Creek rose today, long story that sucks but hopefully the world will be normal again in a couple of days and I can get back on track. Thanks for the comments guys...Chuck, shifting tranny...hmmm...I can see it happening, at least the shifter. :mpup

Hey Moon Puppy,

Have you considered a recaptured (in Tunisia) scheme? Download this special newspaper insert and take a look. The German halftrack is actually a captured GMC M3. Feel free to share with Ken and others...

Hey MOONIE ... That would be a cool Idea. a Re-capture. Especially as many times as stuff changed hands over there in Tunsia. Almost daily !! You could set it somewhere near th Kasserine Pass. :hmmm

Regards,

Thanks Saul, I think you just did share with others.

well I have not started the modifications that are specific for Darby's Rangers GMC other than the idler but I have gotten Archers Darby Rangers transfers for this vehicle. Something to think about...

Well major updates. Gun Shield is installed. I replaced some of the fittings and braces with brass.
gmc241.jpg

Griffon wanted the handles for the floor stowage to be hinged, forget that. be glad I got those handles bent.

gmc242.jpg

Little detail of the replaced brace. Nevermind the rod coming out of the travel lock, got some tooling to do there.

gmc243.jpg

Not the simulated bolt heads on the braces...

So Mr Hafltrack, or anyone else who wants to chime in. The Darby Rangers GMC has stowage box on the back. Since we don't have a shot down inside we can make some guesses.
1. First is, there's some stowage peaking over the top of the box so it must be opened on top.

2. There seems to be some home made bracing on the bottom, would one assume this is made from the stowage racks from other H/T or just whatever they found?

3. Is the box wood or perhaps scrap metal. There is clearly an outside framing that looks to be metal because it's a bit thin. I think it would be a far assumption that the box is metal.

4 what of this framework detail on the kit part, all that needs to come off, right?

5. The gun mount up front, is it attached to the running board or the hood?
