I've really been on a roll lately. Getting so much done. I'm going to be able to wrap up this train station before long. I wanna get back to vehicles, only a few left! Once this is finished, after I have the vehicles and figures done, I'm guessing I can complete all the buildings and street accessories in a few months! Then I've got the show base to do and order the plexiglass top! I might just finish this never-ending diorama!

Here, for the first time, I think the photos will give the viewer an idea of how it will look finished. Still a lot of weathering, (Aging), to do, smoke residue from the locomotives on the superstructure. When it is complete, I will be able to set it in place but still lift it off to get in behind it. The number of figures and vehicles on the street will be massive. Just to pin the 450 figures and 52 vehicles for attaching to the base will be time consuming.

The support columns and the superstructure of the roof are not attached as yet. They are sitting there and, obviously they won't be aligned or level until the final assembly with glue..

After it is all assembled, there will be rubble from the tank round in the wall, all over the floor plus a lot of dirtying up, trash, etc. scattered about. I gave the tiles a gloss coating by using Chartpak micro tape to mask off the grouting. It would be flat. Then I sprayed gloss clear on the tiles and removed the tape. That was a lot of tedious work!

The stairs look new. I'll have to scuff them up and also wreak some damage from the falling bricks and debris.

And, finally, an overall shot. The steel work will continue to the last girder on the left when the building is finally assembled.

Well, that's it for now. Thanks for dropping in!

It's coming along very well Bob! I look forward to seeing the finished work.

It would take a month to begin to see all the detail in this work. I'm sure you have the proper method of lighting for it, the surrounding lighting, not lights in the construct.

The attention to the details really pushes this over the top :notworthy :notworthy

Thanks Paul,

Except for the figures, (There will be quite a few vignettes in the train station), I think the building will be finished this month!

BTW, I tried your suggestion on the shading of the gold trim. It looked OK until I mocked it up as in these photos. Then they were too shaded. Anyway, you never know till you try!

Hi John,

I have been working on this diorama for 15 years, I hope it has a lot of detail! :) Those photos were taken on my work bench and without any photographic lighting, so, a little dark. When the dio is finished I have a place selected for it in the museum where it will be well lit. When we moved here four years ago, I made the finished lower level into a museum and spent nearly $10K to have additional lighting installed. Some of my larger dioramas like this one have as many as 300 miniature lights installed, but, when I planned this one, I knew there would be so much detail, I opted to leave the miniature lights off as all the wiring would interfere with the details such as hundreds of figures and the 52 vehicles.!

Thanks for looking in!

Thanks Saul!

Thanks John,

Yeah, I've got 10 pounds of putty and thousands of tiny squares of glass and..... :yipee

Seriously, I will use a product named Krystal Klear. I have also used Elmer's white glue and it will work pretty much the same. You apply it with a toothpick, stick it in the jar coat the tip, then immediately put it inside the tiny frame and move it in a circular motion until the pane is filled with the thick liquid. It will be white but will later dry clear. Of course, I won't do them all, just here and there as the train shed, literally made of hundreds of those tiny window frames from Grandt Line, will be destroyed from bomber raids in four or five different locations and collapsed onto the K-5E rail gun. Then the tank round through the upper right side wall of the main hall would altogether have the effect of breaking a lot of glass, the single pane glass used in the ceilings back then but, not so much of the heavier duty safety glass used in large plate glass store windows. I have cracked the windows of the doors to the street at the top of the stairs as well as the ones in the Imbiss.

I will simulate all that glass breakage on the ground with the super thin micro-slips used with microscopes. Break several of them into tiny, tiny pieces and using 3M spray glue, attach them to the tracks and passenger ways in the shed and on the hall floors. They will be transparent of course, but you will see the glass from their reflections.
