"Let me see your map, LT!" Vietnam 1967 COMPLETED

"Let me see your map, LT!" Vietnam 1967

I'm still amazed at the incredibly realistic appearance of the LT, even though he's not painted yet. Your sculpting is phenomenal. Way to go James!

Thanks, Guys. Hopefully once I get this done I can get on the site longer so I can look at the other forum topics and threads and start commenting on them again.

Here is the RTO after I sprayed him with a light coat of Tamiya Primer. Looking at these photos I saw some blemishes that I have since fixed and the painting can be started on him tomorrow.

And here is the LT with a patch on his left shoulder, the gap that was under his right arm filled in, and the buckles and hooks on the back straps of his suspenders added. Once the putty is cured I will smooth out the patch and refine the shape of the hardware on the suspender straps.

"Let me see your map, LT!" Vietnam 1967

Since I am having to paint after work and only have an hour or two per night to work on these guys, I have not made as much progress as I would have liked. Last weekend I started on the faces, but only finished the RTO's face. I still have a bit more to do with the LT's face. I applied some of the base colors for the uniforms and the flak jacket. The flak jacket and helmet cover may seem to light and bright, but once I apply some glazes their colors will change to match the real thing.

Anyway, this is as far as I have gotten with the RTO...face painted, left leg highlighted and shadowed, ammo part of the bandoleer painted.

This weekend I plan on spending all day each day working on these figures.

And here is the LT. Only the base coat of Reaper Sunburn Flesh has been applied to his face after his eyes were done, so there is still quite a bit more to do to his face. Only the base colors are applied to the uniform and flak jacket. The flak jacket may seem a bit light and bright, but that is only so when the glazes are applied and then the highlights and shadows of the glaze colors, it should turn out to be the same color as the the flak jacket I have.

Thanks, Guys.

Quick update because I am trying to get these guys done this weekend. Here is the RTO as of now, Noon CST. I have completed his uniform. Still need to finish his gear, but the base colors are applied, so on to shading and highlighting.

Thanks, Guys!

Here is how far I was able to get tonight...I am pretty much done with the RTO minus his boots and weathering. I faded out the helmet cover, added some grafiti on it, scratched up his arms with scratches from "wait-a-minute" vines, and added a sweaty sheen to his skin with satin varnish. Tomorrow morning I plan on knocking out the boots.

I might need to re-outline the helmet band to make it stand out more.

While I was painting the RTO, I also did a bit of work on the other LT. I think the pose is good, and the head I chose from Hornet is good and actually looks like the LT from the event I am depicting, but when I painted the face, I just am not totally pleased with it.

This is one of those cases where the photos look better than the actual figure. After getting a good night's sleep, I will work on it a bit more and see if it turns out better.

If the face is not salvageable, I will go back with the original figure I was going to use for the LT as a backup.

Got the RTO finished except for the weathering which I will do once the base is done. I think he turned out well.

"Let me see your map, LT!" Vietnam 1967

After spending a couple of hours on the sitting LT, I have decided that I won't be able to get the figure painted how I would like in time for the show, so I am going to go with the original figure of the LT. The composition of the vignette will be like this with the RTO standing closer to the LT. They are spaced like this in these photos because of the pill bottle lids they are attached to for painting.

And here is the LT with his map. It is a map of one of the AOs that 2/47th Inf (Mech) operated in. I have it positioned so it gives the impression that the LT is trying to keep the map out of the NCO's hands.

Now that I have the figures ready, I can start on the diorama base itself.
