"Let me see your map, LT!" Vietnam 1967 COMPLETED

"Let me see your map, LT!" Vietnam 1967

Thanks, Guys.

Here is how far I got on this as of 28 May. My dad passed away that day and I snapped this photo before I left to go to San Antonio and take care of things and be there for my mom. This is the first chance I have had to post it. When I go back home I will take more photos with a better background and hopefully better lighting. I am sure my dad would have liked this vignette.

My dad's funeral is on 6 June which is an important date militarily for my family. My Grandpa O'Leary's first mission as a B24 Bombardier was on D-Day. My first day of Marine Corps Recruit Training was 6 June 1988. And my dad's burial with full military honors will be 6 June 2019.

Well, I got to go.

Thanks for looking.
Cheers,
James

James, my condolences on your loss, I'll be praying for you and your family. It sounds like June 6 is a red-letter day for your family. Take care and take your time.

Thanks for the thoughts and prayers guys. I greatly appreciate it and so does my family.

In order to decompress a bit I did attend the Tulsa Figure Show, was able to see a few modeling friends, and bought some models and reference books. I got a bronze medal for this diorama in the Historical Open category. Although my painting has improved, the awesome talent shown by many of the exhibitors at the show raised the bar, so I am happy with bronze.

Here are photos of the completed diorama, or at least as complete as it is right now. I would have liked to have added some more ground scatter from my usual mix, but I have not been able to find the box that it is in.

Some of these photos may seem redundant, but I was trying to show some details in certain shots.

Wow, congrats on the Bronze! Well deserved I say. I almost feel that with the proper background, this would look like a real life shot straight out of the 'Nam! Beautifully done!

Thanks, Guys.

There were many excellent pieces by some of the better figure modelers at the Tulsa Figure Show, so just to have my stuff on display among them is an honor.

Yesterday I attended Soonercon in Oklahoma City. Although it is one of the smaller shows I attend, the quality of work on display just keeps improving. This diorama did not win anything there. My two figure entries did, but this did not. One that beat this one out I can understand why, but the other two were not of the same quality. Oh well, no big deal. I mainly just wanted to display it and I did receive many comments about it from people coming up to me wanting to see it after I had boxed it up and was waiting for the awards ceremony to start.

After seeing some of the armor that I was judging on the AMPS side of Soonercon, I am motivated to get some vehicles completed.

Cheers,
James

Godspeed Papa O'Leary. See you on the other side. My sympathies to your People. :zen :salute :drinks

Superb Execution!!! ...and congrats James on the recognition of your talent and skill. :good:

Looking forward to seeing whatever vehicle you choose.
