Latest Acquisitions Revisited!

Barney, when i first started training in engineering my boss said
"An engineer can do for a penny what any dam fool can do for a £1"
its something that always stuck with me especially with the modern tendency to over engineer everything because people still see complicated and detailed as better. The result is nearly everything needs batteries these days :) You can have a disposable Cigarette lighter with a gas chamber, inlet valve, adjustable outlet valve, piezo ignitor , steel , brass and plastic components.........or a strike-anywhere match

I have reserved mine :)
Released Jan 26
This is a 1927 Norton model 18

1:9 from MFH.
I am absolutely hooked on these things., even if i never build it i just want to own it. does that make me a bit strange ?

I just think, even as a picture its a thing of beauty......And i know now that if its not perfect its my fault because there is nothing wrong with these kits. They sort of throw down gauntlets :) and idiots like me pick them up 😂

Paddy;

That is the most beautiful motorcycle!

And, no, just having that in your stash would be worth every farthing.

The Norton tempts me, but I have a new toy (tool) that I am paying for that is due within a month and then I will be trying to figure out how to get it to do all the repetitive stuff I come up with.

Well, I find it hard to believe this is my only acquisition in December but most of what I bought for others for the Holidays. Wife and I were going around craft stores for ornaments and such when she decided to pull me into Dollar tree. Well, for $1.25USD I picked this up!

I've had those for gun cleaning, shop cleaning, cleaning for just about everything except my teeth. Harbor Freight for me, but I'm sure they all come from the same ginormous factory in China.

Harbor Freight is nowhere near me but, when traveling to my son's internship in Philadelphia, I stopped at a NJ location and my wife was shocked at the amount of carbide PCB micro drills I bought!

She will be shocked at how many more you need when they snap 😂
Yeah, my experience with HF has always been, um, uneven. As somebody raised on Craftsman when they were still made in the USA, shopping there never sat well with me anyways. Eventually all I got from there was clamps and simple stuff like that.

Great minds think alike. I picked up a set of those while wandering around Canadian Tire.

Cheers,

A quick update on the micro lathe from Innocraftsman.
To be honest i dont think i will find a use for it. Its really to small for model making especially in 1/12.
It throws up more problems than it solves and is incredibly awkward to use.
I will list a few problems i have encountered that maybe Paul will understand :)
There is no proper adjustment on the tail stock to align it with the chuck so its almost impossible to turn any length to a dia when using a running centre.
There is no clamp for the tail stock so you have tighten the gibs to stop it sliding backwards when drilling.
Very little travel on the cross slide so you cant bring it back far enough to get a parting tool in the tool post
Very hard to find tools for it.
chuck is an absolute pain, its not a conventional scroll chuck or a self tightening, its half way between and need 2 rods to hold it and its tightening ring every time you use it.
Hand wheel for the saddle is too small requiring dozens of turns to move the saddle down the bed and being about 30mm dia its impossible to turn smoothly.

You get the idea, its more toy than useful machine but you never know till you buy and try :)

They really are at their limit on a PCB or hard board, plastic is stretch for the smaller sizes as it clogs the flutes and you are in trouble with no warning.
