Latest Acquisitions Revisited!

HobbyBoss have really stepped up their game with this kit. A lot of building ahead of me. Whats even cooler is the photo journal they provide with great detail close ups of the real thing.

That sounds great James,

I've only built one Hobby Boss kit so far and I was really impressed. It would stand up to the best of them!

Great scores James! I've built a couple dozen Hobby Boss kits and they are a blast! You're gonna have fun with that.

Yeah they are good kits and getting better. This is the last big SAM I'll get I think. I have 2 different versions of the S-300 and now this S-400. I'm not sure there is a big difference in the delivery system of the S-500 to worry about it. When I get it done the display shelf will have a SA-2, 4, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10/20, 13, 15, 18, 19 and 21. When Meng releases it I'll get the SA-11. And then its just the radars to collect. I'm not sure if I will do a SA-12/23 yet. If Riich ever releases it I'll do the SA-3 also.
And as an idea of the SAMs out there.

Wow! I never knew there were so many Russian SAMs out there! So far I only have in my scale the A-2, SA-3, SA-9, SA-10, and SA-13. If I can get the SA-6, I will have every Russian SAM system released in 1/72 scale.

Looking forward to seeing your SAM collection getting built!

While I was out picking up my Expedition from the body shop, I did some shopping. Found the wire I needed at "Hobby Recycling" for my fleet oiler build.

Went to the "Tim Rideout" contest done at our club meeting place. Grand Rapids, Muskegon and Kalamazoo were represented. I didn't enter, but did partake of the dinner. :D . While there I spied on the giveaway table, another Guillow's kit. A Curtis p-40 Warhawk. When the guys found out I might actually build these things, they brought this in for me. I need to order 2 die cut sheets that are missing.

Hey, EJ please tell me more about this Hypo cement

It's a small tube, 1/3 oz. The cap is not threaded. I just pushes on. Part of the cap is a fine wire that inserts into the precision, angled application tip, kinda like the metal tip on the Model Master plastic cement, except the tip is angled. I like that.

The glue has Xylenes and Heptane in it, and there is a slight odor. It is NOT a cyanoacrylate glue, so it will not glue your fingers together. Says to use in a well ventilated area - doesn't everything? When I use it, it is in very, very small amounts, so I'm not too concerned.

The glue is to be used only on non porous surfaces and seems to work well on styrene and metals. I've never seen it damage anything I've used it on. The box says it will work on plastic, glass, metals, ceramics, and can be used on watch crystals. My neighbor uses it when tying fly fishing lures. I use it for setting PE railings and radars and such, gluing the ends of .015 and smaller music (and other) wire for rigging, on fine thread type rigging ends and other somewhat difficult gluing jobs.

The glue itself is kinda thick, about like thick CA glue. The texture and smell kinda remind me of the old tube glue that came with balsa models back in the day, but this stuff is not recommended for porous materials. It is clear going on, stays clear, so parts painted can be applied to painted surfaces and then clearcoated either gloss or flat and you can't see it. Got mine at the LHS.

Just escaped from 3 days in the hospital. Had a mild case of pneumonia and had a couple of small clots in my right lung. Now going to be on blood thinners at least for a while.
The pneumonia (walking) might explain why I have not really had much drive to do anything for a while. Probably have had it since about the first of the year. The other was caused by "who the hell knows". Probably set at my computer and played a computer game all day last Sunday.

I have been using this at work for about 15 years. It was made for attaching plastic watch crystals to the cases. It usually doesn't damage the plastic and seems to adhere fairly well. The biggest trick to using it is that I usually don't squeeze the tube at all. If you need to work up from the flattened end with only a small squeeze. On smooth surfaces if you end up with a touch much let it set up a little while and then take a fairly sharp toothpick and work the excess off. It never seems to dry hard and soaking it in water will cause it to break down.

Happy Father's Day Jeeves, and to everyone who is a father here. Way to go on your Father's Day present.

Excellent glue. I think I need to get some of that for my BMP-3 photo etch screens.

Paul, I'm glad to see you feeling better now. I hope that pneumonia is finally knocked down.

Got some stuff in today. A BMO-T which although looking plain Jane is kind of terrifying. Its an APC for a specialist crew who use Thermoberic weapons.

The last kit for a while. I've heard about these and they sound really cool.

Famous last words eh James? I just say "last kit until the next one".

I like how in many of their kits Trumpeter gives a choice of either PE or styrene parts. Sometimes the styrene parts are better because they are round rather than flat.

Cheers
