Nice! I wish we had another LHS. Selection at the Hobbytown is kinda lacking...and they never rotate stock. They just keep the same kits on the shelf, at least for aircraft. I love them for paint & tools though.

It's sad. Way back in the 90s I warned our VLS customers about what was coming in our newsletter. The brick and mortar hobby shops were closing their doors faster than we could delete them as customers. The Internet sold it cheaper then as they had no overhead whatsoever, but, I have always liked to look at the kits, accessories and books before i buy them. Guess I'm just old fashioned, but it seems most every time I buy something on the Internet, it isn't exactly what I thought it was. And, I hate returning things, especially on the Internet!

By the way, I have now been out of the model business since 2006. That's ten years. I bought some glue, superglue and zip-kicker the other day. The tab was $28. for 5 small items!!!! The prices of hobby related items, especially kits are insane! From what i have seen, they have effectively doubled since I retired.

I just moved from St. Louis to Springfield Mo. At least we had some hobby shops in St. Louis and an even great one with CRM. Springfield has one second rate train shop. A strictly RC shop and a HobbyTown that is predominately a toy store. These three shops serve an area population of a quarter million people! They don't carry Humbrol paints or Vallejo and when i asked about photo-etch, they didn't know what I was talking about!

Here is some incredible news. In 2000, there were 9000 hobby shops in America. Today, there are 2000. That's a fact!

Bob, the old guy! :eek:ldguy

Well Bob, you can still get Gator's Grip glue for $5.00. Never increased the price in 11 years.

YOu have got some nice pickups James. I was lucky enough to score some beauties also.....Cheers mark

Nice score!!!!!

Wow! Now they make all that dry dock stuff. Of course, it's 1/700 scale. Back in the 80s, I had to scratch all that, plus 90% of the ship, and it was in 1/72nd scale! The worst part was the actual dry dock pit!

Thanks Bob. I remember seeing your Dio and was astounded by it. Now you can get DryDock Parts in 72nd Scale including Workers and all associated Buildings and Equipment. Having Kits makes it easier but still admire the Skills of a sratchbuilder and Modeller like yourself.

New AMPS mag came in and then a surprise. I got a subscription to Windsock and the new issue is out along with the newest datafile. Also got some more camera gear and finally my Rexx exhausts came in. I have looked for these since I heard of them a couple of years ago. Well found them and got 6 for different kits. They are grown metal I think and are awesome. The 2 close ups are the exhaust for my Roland D. VI.

James, those look like a copper based lost wax casting to me. The finish is too smooth to be any kind of 3D printing (which can be done in metal these days). Definitely a much nicer product than the G-Factor landing gear which I won't buy after getting bit once.

Where did you find them? I might be interested in the near future.

I thought they were grown like the Moskit exhausts but I don't really know for sure. I do like the look of them though.
I looked on ebay for these. Their home address and where I tried years ago to get them is http://www.arrow-wolf.com/ but their web site says they are moving. The name is Rexx.
For any other era modelers they do make WWII stuff as well and I believe in 1/48 also but cant be certain with their site down.

Who in the world had time to build that drydock scene?
That is just incredibly detailed! I bet that took a long time to build.
Definitely a labor of love!

Here's a few I got over the last couple months.

Some new floaters, starting with the Merit Duck (this looks like a beautiful kit!)

A Be-4 (I read online that this is one of the WORST kits ever produced! Lots of flash, parts not completely molded, they even included the wrong decals!)

And this nice Ju-188 I picked up at a club raffle.

Saw an article in the paper the other day about a used book store in the area set in an old chicken barn since the 70's...so I loaded up the kids for a drive. Owl Pen Books also has an online store at AbeBooks...

Was looking in the reference section and saw a Squadron book or two...asked her if she had anymore and a guy had just sold her a huge stack of them. I had a great time looking though them-- most of them were Luftwaffe books featuring planes I have already modeled- but maybe you folks can find something you'd like...this one was $4-

From the Ukraine, I got the new MiniArt T-44M, Su-122 with interior, Tram Civilians, German tank crew at rest (which I got for the pig).

Also, someone on Facebook was selling Eduard Overtrees so Ipicked up the following 1/48th scale kits:
Spitfire Mk VIII (to be a Grey Nurse)
Bf 109E-1 (combine with Classic Airframes for a Bf 109D-1
BF 110G-4 (to replace my Monogram kit)
All told with shipping, it was like buying from Eduard and getting free shipping. I am happy!

Regards,

I'm not that far from Tulsa. If they have a decent LHS there, It would be worth a day trip. Can you give me the name and address?

Springfield, Mo doesn't have a single LHS worth driving to.
