Italeri Chevrolet 15CWT: - Finished.

Re: Italeri Chevrolet 15CWT: A little progress

Thanks gentlemen!

Kiwi: I'm in no position to advise on paint. Everything is a grand experiment and a surprise for me.
Have a great spring and summer down there! It's getting cold and rainy here.

James: Thanks, but slow down on the black wiper blades. I'd have to wear two optivisors to try to pull that off.

Bob: I don't know about decals. Mine get messed up enough by accident. I was so tempted at previous stages to pull off the masks and have a look, but I showed some restraint. I only peeked once.

Christian: Thank you too.

Jose: Thanks for your comments. I have a #11 blade on a drafting compass that I use to cut the masks for the clean wipe of the wiper blades. I try to show it later. P.S.- I LOVE the Abrams that you made. Well done.

Re: Italeri Chevrolet 15CWT: A little progress

Window masks.

I cut down a #11 blade and lashed it to a drafting compass. There is a subtle technique involved in using it (that I haven’t mastered at all!). The blade will walk (go off line, either in or out) and chatter(walk severely and then jump) (especially with the very tight inner radius cuts) unless the right combination of angle and pressure is used. I have done better in the past, so I know its possible to make this work. I make several attempts and am always able to get something useable. I may need to make a new (sharper )blade.

Thanks again for looking. This thing is all but wrapped up now.

Cheers,

Bill

Add/edit: The masking media is artist's frisket. it is a clear sheet with a low tack adhesive on a paper backing. It is easy to reposition (or reuse).

Re: Italeri Chevrolet 15CWT: Window masks.

Thanks, James, Kiwi,Ron, 007, Smurf, and Bob!

Let’s call it finished.

A few scratches, and a (very light) mist coat of buff Tamiya acrylic for dust.
Somewhere along the line, I misplaced side view mirrors. They were painted and weathered along with everything else, but they got lost in the proverbial avalanche of work bench stuff. I’ll put them on when they turn up.
Questions or comments are always welcome. Thanks for looking and for all the support along the way.

Cheers,

Bill

That's one fine truck Bill. (y)

When you finish another barrel you might dry brush a light coat of steel on those two bands around them.
Barrels were rolled around a lot and the paint didn't hold up for very long on those bands.

Fine job, yes sir really nice. :eek:hyeah

That turned out really well I had no idea the Brits even used Chevy trucks.
I am getting to really like this desert land warfare stuff : (y)

Thanks for all the nice comments everyone!

Thanks Bob, Ron , Sherm, and Chuck.
Thumbs up to you Tony for the constructive comment and advice. We need more of that around here.
Paddy, according to the little historical blurb in the kit instructions, the vehicle was a British design built by General Motors of Canada (also manufactured in Australia). Engines were supplied by American manufacturers.

Over and out,

Bill

I just noticed you are doing the Staghound in your sig Bill ! I have just started mine which might be embarrassing having seen this truck :) Any major problems a complete novice should be looking out for ? :eek:hmy:

Paddy,

No problems other than the usual . The build is in the road warriors campaign thread. Thanks for posting the walk around pictures on your build.

Cheers,

Bill
