Uh, Friday of SOME week, but not this one. I really can't wait to get started, but I do want to finish my other projects first. Can you REALLY have only one project on the bench at once?? :idonno

Rob, I bought the PE set from Voyager, a set of rear stowage boxes from Eduard, a barrel from The Barrel Store and some miscellaneous from Verlinden. I'll post up some pictures of everything before I get started. The Voyager set has some stowage boxes too, might just save the Eduards for another project. This is my most ambitious project to date, holy donuts, what have I gotten myself into??? :woohoo: :woohoo: :woohoo:

That really looks sweet, Tony! I haven't decided on which version I want to build, leaning toward a very late production model, but the Zimmerit really looks cool too! No barrel today, rats!

Reaching the end of day one, made some progress.

I cleaned all the road wheels and suspension parts and started assembly.

Everything was pretty straightforward, instructions are good so far and everything fits with minimal prep.

I borrowed Dave's tip about the rough ends of the armor, added the rough cut look with a triangular file.

I put the wheels on just as a mock up for pictures, yes the torsion bars work.

I took a few minutes to mark the instruction sheets as to which parts will be replaced with the photo etch, hopefully that will keep me from going too far or missing a sub assembly. I also mark off parts as I assemble them and make notes to remind me of details for later.

Planning to get some bench time tomorrow, more then.

Thanks, Tony! You were right, she's a beaut! Didn't get too much done today, lots of distractions around the house. Here's what I accomplished...

I started on the rear bulkhead and the photo etch for the jack. The Voyager brass parts are really heavy, so they are quite easy to work with (once you get them off the sprue).

I spent a good deal of time this afternoon looking for reference pictures of the rear deck and interior, without much luck. Most of what I found are pictures of museum pieces and don't show what I'm looking for. If anyone can point me toward some good reference photos, I'd appreciate it. Back to work tomorrow.

Hi Mike.

It's looking good so far. There are lots of places to find good photos. But you do indeed need to be carefull about some. As museums quite often tend to not care to much about authentic. They just want to get something big and heavy on display, where 99% of the people will never know what is right or wrong about thing on the vehicle.

This place is pretty good as far as that goes. But there are others all over the web.

Well, we got SNOW last night, about 6 inches, not much for places that actually get snow, but here, that's A LOT! Had the option of staying home and working on my Jagdpanther or take a chance playing auto hockey with the NASCAR crowd, so I took the easy out!

I broke into the Voyager set big time today, loads of really little parts!! Thankfully, we experienced no tweezer launch and the carpet monster went hungry! This is one days work!

The brass stowage box compared to the kit part.

The exhaust shields were dented to match a couple photos I found and to give them some character. Interestingly enough, the Dragon kit is supposed to be a late version, but does not include the late exhausts as I have found in some of my references. I made the decision to go forward with what I have, mixing some of the old and new parts. Correct? Maybe or maybe not, but in wanting to move forward, I'm taking some artistic license. Please forgive any inaccuracy, I'm really a car guy! :huh:

Lots of brass, looks good Mike. You might want to tuck that one fold on the right hand side box, up towards the top, has a bit of a progressive seam open and when you get primer down it will really jump out then.

We got some white stuff, don't know what it is, ice or snow. I think I'm suppose to take exception to that NASCAR comment but you're right, I stayed home also.

Thanks guys! MP, the fact that you had enough sense to stay in doesn't make you one of the nuts to which I referred. Folks just don't grasp the notion that ice and speed are a bad combination!
