Are there any canopy mask for a Junkers 88 C-6 in 1/48 available. And if so who sells them?

Thanks for your help.

Joe

Montex makes one http://www.montex-mask.com/_files/_productFotos/SM48227.jpg
Might find it at http://www.design-marketingintl.com/

Eduard do one i think EDEX177 which covers the C model in general for the dragon kits.

Joe a word of warning about montex vinyl masks - they are far too sticky and will leave horrible staining on your canopies Plus they do not curve over the canopy pieces well either.

I used them on my Ju88P-1 and learnt a very hard lesson.

What can be done is get a glass kitchen chopping board.

put a large strip of Tamiya yellow masking tape onto the board.

Use your montex masks as a template over the Tamiya mask tape.

use a good straight metal ruler as a cutting guide, and a new blade.

You will thank me later - trust me on this!

Bonus is you have the montex masks for any other Ju88 you want to do, just restick them back onto the sheet after you cut out replacement ones

I have used this method on my He111 H4/6 , and my Do17Z Classic Airframes build

considering the mess those montex masks left on the Ju I think I was lucky to get them looking half decent, Future was brushed over the glased panels as well.

Weird about the gummy residue. I've never had that happen. I wonder if they changed their materials. You might try some tape to pull up any gum, otherwise not sure. When I get my 88 done I'll watch for this.

I am not authority, but some adhesives react with the paint below, leaving that gummy stuff. Don't ask how I know this. :S

Canopy parts were dipped in Future as always on the Ju 88.

Tape would remove the residue but it left a stain that was unmovable, from memory like an oily smear, the more you rubbed it the more it spread.

Toothpick squashed at one end dipped into future then rubbed over the staining repeatedly was the best way of getting rid of it.
But this left an unslightly fine scratching that needed a future brush over the window areas.

For me - I will never again chance using montex masks directly onto my canopies, I will always use them for templates only.

A good heads up is always helpful in these situations ! :drinks

Absolutely. Good info to know Phil. Something I know I'll have to keep an eye on.

That is a possibility MP, only way to fully know is if anyone else has used these on a Futured canopy, or what they do on an un Futured one - how many modellers don't Future canopies?

I found the vinyl very thick and they seemed to bend ok, but still very stiff in a way, they did not like curved parts at all, esp on the Ju88's canopies.

They do make excellent templates - good if you do more than one kit as you can reuse them as long as you don't have a mishap and slice them.

The adhesive is very sticky, maybe because the masks are thick to compensate in some way to their thinking.

If you think of pressing them onto your palm to reduce the stickiness, this could cause another hazard with possible natural skin oils also buying into another possible prob, plus making them less sticky would result in those curved parts adhering even less.

Ouch, I picked up a boat load of them in Poland (I even sent one for an AFV to Mr. T but that one should be OK)... I wonder if the masks that come with the Kagero books are made by Montex Masks?

Regards,

Just use them as templates Saul, with the Do17Z, ju88 and Heinkel 111 they were the only option out here,
those intricate and pesky Luft greenhouses really make you search for pre made masks!!1
