I will not buy another model kit for one year.

Me next My name is Gerry I haven't bought anything this week ... but I have 4 pages on my eBay watch list. I'm on Social Security & my SWMBO has a good paying job, We're in debt up to our eyeballs, so my SS check would help us out if I didn't owe so much to the company store. I found this modeling forum that fuels my needs, then there's Scale Fest and now Eagle Quest that I enjoy going to. I want a trophy so bad that I model many kits, so many there's not enough room in my bunker for them, I have kits & stuff for kits in totes under my work bench, (I'm also a Model Railroader) so that is also my Railroad layout. I would build that and get rid of the stuff in the totes, if my Kits & tools weren't in the way.

My Honey-Do list is getting bigger, so my modeling budget is smaller because our Double-wide Manufactured Home is falling to piece, it is raining here all the time, so I can't fix it on my days off. So I sit at the bench and dream of new things to make or build, and my Work in progress, list gets bigger.

Help Me !!! Out of control in Texas !!!

It took me eight years to escape Texas so I understand your predicament . I wish you good luck .

Cheers, Christian B)

Get married, that will stop it. Or if you are married, tell SWMBO that you blew your whole paycheck on models, then you'll stop :pp

Tim

Hate ta brag but.........no,that didn't work for me. I had to learn self con........oh look more new kits from...and I only have a dozen Eduard 110's.... :frantic

model buyers annonymous? We can assist each other in our goal to stop buying and start building :D
James

Great Idea! I will start..

Hi, my name is Alex and I am a modeleraholic. I haven't bought a model since... 2 days.

Since I have joined this forum I cannot stop looking into Ebay, Dersockelshop.de, Hannants, aviationmegastore and so on. This is almost a compulsion now.

And we want to buy a house... I really must stop.

Cheers

Alex

Hi . My name is Chris and I'm a plasticaholic .

No point in trying to stop . I have tried for more years than I care to count ....Does not work.

Gave up everything else but not plastic.

Best advice is buy a house so you have more space for storing kits .

Cheers, Christian B)

The DML AT-AT! Crickey, I forgot about that one. Yikes, I'm already doomed to failure.

I didn't restart the hobby as an adult until I already had the house, wife and kids and spent every spare moment working on the house and raising the kids, so those brakes don't apply.

It's only the recent years that bench time has become a regular thing, kids are starting to look at colleges, everyone is doing their own thing, etc.

For modeling, I forged an agreement years ago. I take the NY State tax refund as my yearly modeling budget.

If I don't buy any kits this year, the tax scratch can go to a new Macbook and 3D printer instead of styrene. Win-win if I just build all the must have stuff I already bought. That'll take 5 years at least.

Hi, I'm Eddie and, I'ma Styrene feind... from the left coast of da US of A! Where the skies are cloudy all day...

I must say . If your wife is a detriment to who you are ( a modeler ) You made an unwise decision.

Sorry, but there is room for the three os us in this relationship. :coolio

In my case, my wife and daughter are in the habit of constantly surrounding themselves with all things equestrian...so they spend way more than I do ;)

My big problem is I have been gaining interest in becoming an amateur whiskey/whisky aficionado. The local liquor store holds tasting classes once or twice a month- so I collect bottles of that stuff now- and a bottle is about the same price as a kit ;). Incentive to keep working down the stash ;)

I was into that back in the 80s. Started in the USAF around the poker table. :rotf Don't know if they still make it but stay away from the Jim Beam green label.

Usually use the Jim Beam for mixing up Dark & Stormys....

The other stuff is consumed a dram at a time in the evening ;)

Really wish I could say I am not going to buy another for a year, but I know that is not realistic.

Instead, I am only going to try to buy less than 5 this year! Starting now.... Since I already bought 2....I think.....

Good luck to those who can!

:salute

Oh for me Sarah could care less about how many kits I have. But in our new place we just don't have the room for me to have a large stash. I'm finding that about 300 kits seems to be the max for the space I have available. Which is fine by me. Just means I gotta sell some stuff off that will never get built anyways and put the money into aftermarket stuff for the kits that I really want to build.

Well, technically, I didn't buy anything, but I did come home with nine raffle prizes from the Pasadena Valleycon. :idonno I won twelve and gave away two immediately. I later gave a third one away.

Happy Birthday to me! :D
