Sorry for yet another question but can somebody tell me how I can go about replicating the wood grain effect on a rifle as in this example using acrylics . thanks

Thanks for bringing this up! I've got a 1/6 MG-42 that I've been wanting to finish, but couldnt figure out how to paint the wood stock.
Adam, you've seen the base I've used on the Hellcat and Corsair? the frame was painted using this technique.

can't remember the exact colors I used. Think the base coat was Buff then came in with some oils for the streaking. Then gave it a clear yellow coat, Tamyia would work fine, I used AlcladII cause that's what I have in clear yellow.

Wow, yea, I do remember seeing that, and didn't know it wasn't wood. I didn't see the in progress shot, just the finished shot, and just figured it was wood trim.

wow that base looks awesome , all I have is acrylics . I don't really want to have to start buying oils as I have bought close to 50 different Vallejo paints.
Oppps, I missed that about the Acrylics only. hmm...guess you could, haven't tired it. Think you would have to get some sort of barrier between the base coat and the streaking/wood grain or the thinned paint will just make a muddy mess.
Course you could always go with a decal like what Uschi has.
