How To Paint A Combat Aircraft

RichB

Well-known member
A 1943 RAF training film on the correct procedures to prepare, prime, putty, paint and smooth a combat aircraft, both metal and wood.

Of note, no PPE was harmed in the making of this film.

Cheers,

Really interesting bit of instruction film. as you say. i presume Caruthers took a swig of thinners before he started to cope with any paint inhaled. :)

Those were the days when tradesmen had real skill with things like applying masking tape, i remember seeing a film of the guy at Triumph motorcycles applying pin stripes with a brush to petrol tanks , perfectly symmetrically on both sides of the tank.
In my trade it took me several years to be able to just sharpen a drill with a few passes on a grinding wheel with different angles and rakes for different metals and getting both cutting edges symmetrical but practice makes perfect.
These days i expect its all automatic :)
