Happy Fourth of July to those who celebrate it, stay safe and healthy and enjoy your long weekend.

I got up early this morning as I do every year and went to my hobby room and set the 'alarm clock' to about seven or eight to wake the family and remind them of what day it was. This time I had the camera rolling just for the heck of it. I hadn't had my first cup of coffee yet hence the bags under my eyes and the tired look.

Which part?

The pulled pork? (insert drooling Homer Simpson voice here)

The job hook up?

Or the mishap?

Congratulations, Glenn!!
I've got a little extra celebration going on myself today.
My evil boss was fired Friday and I'm about to start on the ribs with a new BBQ sauce Karen and I picked up from a great little rib joint we found a couple of weeks ago.
All is right with the world, again.

My ribs are about to come off the smoker and just wanted to share the thought of what happened some 234 years ago.

A bunch of men got together after discussing several unresolved and burdensome issues of their day. Face with continuing frustrations of not getting satisfaction from their governing body these men decided it was time to cut ties to the only government they had know and many of them even served honorably with.

These Men, these Founding Fathers signed a document that was not only the Decoration of Independence for these United States but they also signed their own Death Warrant. Ask yourself today if you would willingly sign a document that severs ties to what you have held loyal and dear for all your life. Knowing that you would be branded a traitor and all your possessions would be seized by the state. Knowing that you could be hung on site if captured by forces loyal to the entity you just declared independence from.

Could you do it? Yeah, That's what makes these Founding Fathers, with their flaws and all, so special to Americans.

The 4th isn't just about our freedom , it's about all those that have fought for their freedom , and those that want to fight for theirs ..........

Thanks guys , ........

Yes getting hooked up again at work is a very sweet thing , also my buddy going to the appropriate people to get that chick fired was also a sweet deal , .... Hey sweetie , you're fired , you can't call Puerto Ricans , ........ blank , blank , blank , ......... so pack your things and go home to your trailer ............

Glenn, glad to hear it! Just goes to show that things DO work out! MP, wish those ribs weren't so far away! To everyone else, happy Independence Day, have a safe and happy celebration, my friends! :ro: :ro:

Well here's my WIP for today.

The Braising ;) , cooked in the oven for about 2 hours with a wet rub of Apple Vinegar and some over the counter spice mix and brown sugar.

Smokin' Baby! Temp didn't get much over 200deg here and I reloaded the Hickory chips a couple of times. Yes, this is really too much smoke but it settled down shortly after the picture and a nice whisp of smoke trickled out of the chimney. (no, my carport generally is not this messy.)

The Result...

Somebody...cut a hunk off before I could come back with the camera. That pink coloration should have penetrated a little further into the meat but they did turn out nice and tender.

Tomorrow, Chicken Wings! (the confederate cole slaw turned out pretty bad so I went with a pasta salad)

So you're saying the confederate coleslaw seceded from dinner? Everything looks awesome!!

Ken, I am SO sorry I didn't comment on your National Anthem last night!
It was kind of Hendrix meets Van Halen, well done my friend! (y)
