Hasegawa 1/72 F9F Panther

I'm doing this one as part of a group build. Also it will help me pass some time while I wait for a couple detail pieces to arrive for my B-25 diorama.

The kit is so-so. The cockpit is a bit simplistic and there's a hump behind the pilot's seat that's not there on the aircraft, so I've already cut that out.

By the way, does anybody know if somebody makes an aircraft carrier flight deck section in 1/72 scale?

Bridges over toko ri. You know I don't think I've ever watched that movie in it's entirety.

I did a quick google but found nothing for the flight deck Al. I'm sure one our experts will have some suggestions.

I haven't sat and watched it in a long time but there's a cut of just the aviation scenes on YouTube that I keep going back to. However, it's not to be overlooked that Grace Kelly is in the movie.

I do... They are printed though. Mostly WWII and Modern. Italeri offers modern in a kit; number 1326. Arma Hobby will have PSP and carrier decks (WWII) available.

If you didn't mind buying a Hellcat model (which isn't bad), this release from Cyber-Hobby (Dragon) included a flight deck section; click to see details and/or order:

VF781 flew off of the USS Oriskany during Korea. It had a wood planked thru deck until 1957 when it received the aluminium planked angled flight deck. The Oriskany was one of two carriers that played the USS Savo Island in The Bridges at Toko-ri.

Lt Joseph MacBrien (RCN) was on exchange duty with VF781 during Oriskany's operations off of Korea in 1952-53. He was awarded the US DFC for leading an interdiction mission against a supply and storage base near Pukchong in February 1953.

Lt MacBrien landing aboard Oriskany off the Korean coast in aircraft 109.

That could definitely work. Just don't tell anybody I put a Panther on an escort carrier 🤫.
In the old days, the Skywave USS Independence CVL-22 kit came with a Douglas TBD Devastator and a Grumman Panther. 1 each.
Neither aircraft ever operated from a WWII US Navy Light Carrier. I don't know why Skywave did that.

Crazy to think part of landing procedures in landing a jet aircraft is to open the canopy.
No ejection seat, certainly not a zero-zero seat. There's a video somewhere of a Brit jet that rolled off the deck and the pilot couldn't get out, couldn't get his canopy open.
It's even crazier to think of landing on an axial flight deck, especially in a jet. Angled decks seem like one of those "why didn't we think of that before" kind of ideas.

Oh man, this cockpit needs some work. I cut out a non-existent hump behind the seat. That bulkhead is too far forward, too thick, and angled wrong. The canopy is supposed to have a plate under the aft portion. It needs a gunsight and I don't even want to talk about the instrument panel. It will be a couple weeks before I can get some sheet styrene.

Saints preserve us! How long will the 1/72 Mk. 8 gunsight take to get there? Holly Molly!
This reminds me of how spoiled we are in the US. Even Hobby Lobby has a rudimentary selection of plastic sheet and strips! I like your seat belts.
What delivery service do you get from Ukraine?
Have you considered the Kelik K72113 Panther instrument panel set?
It is for the Hobbyboss kit. :hmm:

That instrument panel set looks perfect. About the only reliable-ish delivery service to here doesn't service Ukraine, but Sprue Brothers has it and I may as well get some other things I need from them anyways. Thanks!
