Harley 750 WLA but not :-)

3D-Awesome Job GIF.gif

Just thinking about doing something this complex makes my 2 brain cells hurt. Absof-kinglutely mad skills. I applaud you!

Now I'm going back to my 10 piece Hawk 1/4 scale kit and leave a finger print in the glue blob.

The WLA as i said is a military version and has cut down mudguards but it looks like they are the originals cut down and not some different style
So.............. . i just had to see if it could be put right. Bit worrying because i would probably wreck the mudguards i have trying and then i would have to buy another kit just to scavenge the mudguards !!!

Here we go then

I dont think i can match that flair on the rear of the rear... but you can see what we are aiming for when compared with the supplied front

So i used some .3mm plastic card which is more accurate to scale than the kit mudguard which is 1mm. I know Harley's are heavy but to scale that would be 9mm thick :) almost bullet proof :)

A little bit of filler and some tidying up round the edges and this might work. Really depends how it looks with paint...which sort of shows up a load or problems usually. I bought some Mr Surfacer a while back and i have never used it so wondering if this is a use for it ?

I am using Revell spray chrome but i know it takes 2-3 weeks minimum to go off so i ahve done a few parts and put them away for the future

I have done the back wheel so they are both done and i have also done the rear mudguard

and i gace it some paint to see if i have the join between sides and top good enough

I think this will be ok no one has telescopic eyes :) so 1:1 it will pass muster.

I will need to make my own decals for the tank Harley logo, it would be nice to add some pin stripes but i cant do them as my printer is not up to it.
I still dont really have a plan for how this is going to look. I think i will need to make headlamp brackets etc as the military ones in the kit are really crude. I think i will look at the engine next. Not sure what i will do there, obviously olive drab all over isn't going to work and i dont think the civy version came with a thompson SMG and holster :cool:

Mock up to see how the mudguard looks . I looked up on Google what you call it and its a Fender :)
Mudguard =Fender
Bonnet=Hood
Boot =Trunk
Hood=Soft top
Silencer=Muffler
Tyre= tire
Accelerator=gas pedal
Gearbox=transmission
Two great nations divided my a common language 🤣

interesting the picture is in focus in the centre but way out at the edges. Look at the left and right tip of the fender....Indicates a poor lens. Investigation underway :)

The lens has 17 elements, if the lens has had a knock an Element may be out of line.
it could be just a poor quality element , this usually shows up in the peripheral but highly unlikely as this is a Nikon $600 lens.
I will have to look in to it a bit further.

I struggle a bit with decals as i always think the home print papers are a bit limiting with ink jet. Of course the Harley needs tank decals.
Fortunately Harley change their logo like the rest of us change our socks so unless you are a rivet counter there is quite a choice.
My first attempt was on clear paper and the red just shows through so strong it washes out the original colours. This has gold lettering :)

again clear paper and silver detail

So i switched to white paper which means you have to be very presice in cutting the decal out as any white is going to show on the red. This was my favoured design but it doesnt really work 🤣 but you have to try.....

This design is way easier to cut out and i think....unless i can find something better i am a bit stuck

Ideally i would buy a sheet of decals but short of buying a complete kit like the Revell models electro glide i cant find any 1/9 or near, decals for sale
Lets face it, i need to find an answer here thats a lot better than the above.

Its actually the other way round. The bike was originally launched in 1937 as a WLD, the WLA was a military conversion in 1942 so what i am trying to build is a WLD using the later WLA kit

this is a WLD, the tank badge was a cast alloy affair

hear is another

Apart from the fenders the horn and headlamp are reversed and the rear light seems to be different
. some WLD have a rack on the rear mudguard but nothing like the military version

I wonder if i could make that badge with plastic card, with a decal.....??

Oh I thought you were doing swords to plow shear on this not back dating. That's cool! I like that idea, gives it that relief.
