Ford Quad Gun Tractor

Sherman 18

Master at Arms
Tamiya kit, NO MODIFICATION made. That's right this one of my only OOB builds. I loved this kit, it went together so easy. I started this a couple of years ago (think that is more like four) but miss placed the tarp and "glass" well found the tarp and found another kit in the stash to steal the glass for it. I'm not real happy with the color I did for the tarp, I think it should be a green. I used a restored one for the reference on the color of it. So shout out what you feel about the color, PLEASE.

I have always liked the British green with black camo. To get the 'Micky Mouse" look, I first painted the body a dark gray. I then used some round label stickers. To get the smaller circles I used a hole punch. I then painted the body a green. I left off after trying some rain streaks. I used Tamiya buff and like how they came out.

This is where I restarted today

Well about the tarp, i find the colour a little to bright, you should try some green/brown kakhi colour. Use the same as on the seats maybe, i send with a link to some pics, but not many colour pics there sorry.

Check other Brittish/Canadian vehicles and see what colour they used for tarps.

For the rest it's a beautiful build (y) (y)

Jeff I would change the color of the tarp. Build it up with some dry brush layers, different shades of OD maybe?

Great links Mats! Thanks :notworthy

Thanks James (y)

Thanks you MP, I agree, if the weather holds today I'l shot it OD. :D

Nailed it,Jeff! (y)

I can imagine you want to change the tarp color, looks a bit odd this way.Non the less, I think the vehicle is very well done.

Greetings,Ron.

Sorry mist and I do not have a water trap, :( no painting today. I'm off at 1600 tomorrow weather could be better. (y)

Braved the rainy weather and shot the tarp with Humbrol OD. Just made it to the highlighting before I started to get water in the line. Still needs clear coat. I like the tarp better now.

Yep, needs some highlights and shadows now.

General question. Why does sections that are supported fade less? Jeff I'll move this question if it hijacks.

Well I thought someone would throw in on this question.

I paint a base coat first and then lighten that with a mix. On the mix I go on what suits me at that time (got to love airbrushing) For this the base was Humbrol 155, then I added Humbrol 94, 110 and Model Master flat white. With this mix I shot all the large "panels." The reason I do this keeps the paint build up down with the way I weather my vehicles. I then clear with gloss coat and flat coat from Testors. I have to wait a month or more for the paint to harden, then weather with oil washes and then dry brushing. The high points will end up lighter showing the detail. From that I can go to adding earth color washes etc.
