EGYPTIAN JS-3M

I have just not been "feeling it" for the sdkfz.250, SO I decided on this, the Tamiya JS-3M. I am going to build it up as the Egyptian version used in the '56 & (to a more limited extent) the '67 wars. Off the cuff, I am thinking of this one being the '56 version, which has the cool turret art on it.

So I bought this at the recent AMPS show in Columbia

here are my "bonafides" of the kit unstarted:

I am going to use the 'Post '45 tracks I accidentally bought for the JS-2

I am also trying to save a little moo-lah, so I figured I would kick things off by trying yo use the kit barrel. Here, you can see my handy work via the flexi-file. It's OK, but still needs a bit of touch-up

SO going to "back up" a bit and show this great vid from the Bovington Tank Museum:

Amazing what about 2-3 hours can do with a Tamiya kit:

Still have some periscope covers, grab handles, and the like to add, and I am going to add styrene sheet underneath where the sponsons are (beats me why Tamiya did it this way on this and many other tanks) but I am really far along! Will be away next weekend going to see my kid, hope to get more posted soon!

Whelp, despite needing to put plastic sheeting (Plastic "card" to you fine folks across the pond), she is pretty much ready for paint! Even have the heavy MG on there for pics only, as she still lacks the ammo box

Man look at that thing from the front...it's pretty much all turret!

Tamiya did, IMHO, a fine job with the turret texture. They even have casting showing on there, nice touch!

I might not get to it until next weekend, but I think my next thingy (technical term) is to blacken the tracks, then start getting some paint on her!!!

Whelp? What does a small dog have to do with this?? :mpup This side of the pond, we say "Well". :coolio

From https://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=whelp :

whelp
interjection. A remark, generally thought of as [sup]southern slang[/sup], that is derived from the word "Well" and also used in its stead in order to lead one into another sentence that may continue a paused conversation/story or be used to signify the conclusion of one. Where as pronunciation of "Well" can be drawn out, "Whelp" is strictly pronounced very quickly and with a slight rising-inflection.

It's OK Mikey, y'all ain't from 'round here..... ;)

Well it sure is alotta work, but man those Master club tracks look great!!!

OK so this afternoon, I got in some quality-time with this guy. All paints used were the el-cheapo Testors square-bottle.

I started by hitting it with the standard Flat Khaki, but that had a pink-ish hue to it. Perfect for a WW2 LRDG vehicle. but for Egypt in the late '50's....not so much. SO I mixed in a bit of yellow and some flat brown, and then lightly sprayed a very thin coating on, being careful not to cover the pinkish hue, just change it a bit. I followed that up by adding white to the mixture to get some sun fade, and sprayed it on too. the end effect looks pretty good!

Lastly is my little folding plastic "light room" that came today. Hooks to computer for power, bought from Flea-bay for about $8-9 bucks
