I just came across this article on the BBC. Will be nice to finally see a complete Do 17 in a museum. Now they need to finally bring up those two TBD Devastators they located in the pacific.

Man, what a find that would be! Any idea when they are going to raise it?

Sounds like the process began on Friday. But it will take up to a month to finish raising it. I'm thinking it might be one of the largest planes raised so far. Could be wrong though.

Also there was one in Lake Greenwood that was pulled up in 1983or 4. They were droppin' like flies around here. Both those bombers were in the 321st training wing which emerged into the 321st Missle Wing which was the host wing when I was at Grand Forks, can't get away with nuffin' :rotf

So that explains all those sightings.... :facepalm

I would think a Wellington would be comparable to a Mitchell but not sure which would be larger.

From Wiki:

Wellington
Length: 64 ft 7 in (19.69 m)
Wingspan: 86 ft 2 in (26.27 m)
Height: 17 ft 5 in (5.31 m)
Wing area: 840 ft² (78.1 m²)
Empty weight: 18,556 lb (8,435 kg)

B25
Length: 52 ft 11 in (16.13 m)
Wingspan: 67 ft 7 in (20.60 m)
Height: 16 ft 4 in (4.98 m)
Wing area: 610 sq ft (56.7 m²)
Empty weight: 19,480 lb (8,855 kg)

so yeah I guess the Wellington is larger. :pilot

Just saw on CNN.com that they got it raised onto a barge today. Looks like they've got a ton of work ahead of 'em.

Article has several pictures.
