Das Werk 7.5cm Pak 40 in 1/16th scale

1/16? rwall, that is really big then, not my cup of tea but I'm pretty sure you will super that thing, Paul :)

Here are a couple of photos for size comparisons. As I have the Stug III and Panzer III that @Tim A. is building I included a hull for sizing.

The SdKfz 251 is longer than Tim's Panzer III, so this will end up being a BIG dio when done. Loving the detail on the Pak 40. I have only done a couple of minor mods on it not to add detail but to facilitate options for later.

That gun is huge. I built a 40 inch long base for my Constitution model. You can have...haha.

I was fixing to ask where Paul got that can of Coke.
I have had it for 15ish years along with several other interesting pop cans. As they are kind of universal, it helps to convey sizes of stuff. I know the Panzer hull did it for you.

Yeah, only just realized just how big it actually is when I assembled all the parts for this photo. It is actually so impressive with all the fine detail that I am quite impressed. One of the best kits I have had the pleasure of building.

Here is something that says a lot about the plastic on this kit.

OK Bob, you know I have to fix things that are just WRONG. I just HAD to find "something" to fix and here it is.

Ta-da

I will remove these two handles and rework them off the model. Have been way under the weather the last couple of days and stayed home from work today. Slept till 3 this afternoon, got up ate something, did some things I needed to do and crashed back out about 5:30. Finally woke up again about 10PM and actually feel almost normal for the first time in days.
This fix will commence before I start with the final paint and I have plenty of reference for the tire damage, all the way from just a little wear to chewed on like a well worn dog toy. Won't go that far, but they won't be like new that is for sure.

That's the only thing you found wrong? Wow, again these big scale kits really nail the details.

Actually a LOT more than four. So here is the run down of the things that need to be fixed. Yeah, maybe some could squeeze by and be hidden but where is the fun in that? You guys should know me by now, gotta fix it right.
So here is the new "additional" list added to the handles above. There are a number of decent bits and videos on the web. Some of this is captured from the tube. Some of these are puzzling as to why they were missed or why they just didn't do them right. :bash:

Anyway, I would have probably missed some of these if I had not already done a lot of the assembly where it was fresh in my mind.

Yeah the trigger button is "MISSING" from the kit all together. Somebody screwed up or had been hitting the Schnapps a bit too freely. Non of these are big deal breakers, and I should be able to get them all done in a timely manner. Would have done more before now but I have had a nagging cough for the last week and the last few days it has just made it where my head hurts every time I have to cough. Thus I have been a bit on the lazy side especially since I am on vacation this week. Once I get rid of the cough and the head stops hurting I will probably make big changes and Git-R-Done.

I posted earlier in the week about the omitted parts. Here is an update. I was able to get the major parts all done and made. I still have 3 of the minor ones to do and a bunch of nuts and bolts to do. Might look into ordering some as this is probably going to be a thing with these big kits. While there were some that I had to trash off, there were still a fair amount that were buried but could be seen with a good look.

Here is the update, have a look.

The hard parts are all done, now to finish the last few little omissions and get more paint on this. I had wanted to have it done this week, but being under the weather till about Wednesday slowed that down.
The bigger scale required the extra detailing, but boy was it fun trying to figure out how to make that weird connector and it not be misshaped lump.

I guess the yakk attack is at O early 30 in the morning. Time to hit the hay.

Well this is turning into a saga or a pain. It is now obvious that they had someone doing the 3D work that had difficulty visualizing what they were doing. A lot of complex angles and items that had to work together and that guy buggered it.
SO, I was done with my little mods to add the omitted items and had glued the elevation assist cylinders in place. (yeah, this needs to be done BEFORE putting the shield in place) though it can be done with it installed. With those installed the sighting scope assembly can be placed on the left side.
I placed the scope (NO GLUE) and started looking things over. The scope was way inboard of the hole in the shield. WTF! :blink So comparison time. The hole in the outside of the shield looks to be in the appropriate place, but when looking at the reference pics the inner shield hole is way misaligned from the outer hole. DUH! :doh:This is because it is supposed to align between the scope and the outer hole (the pics will show what I mean). Well that is PART of the problem, but the outer hole is misaligned as well as in too far out (except it is right where it should be). Something else is wrong. Finally I determined the center panels on the shield are about .5 inch too wide on each side. Remove that and fix the hole location in the inner shield and it should all line up. Yeah, a lot more work, but at least I have done a bunch of this kind of mod on the Ju87A build so not something new.
If you build the gun with the port closed you can probably get away without this mod. I will be having them open, so..... :bang head

Remember you learn more from fixing the FUBARs than you do from an easy peasy build. (a long slow "r-i-g-h-t")

Anyway on with the cluster -_-_-_-_ fart (Chris you are rubbing off on me)

Yeah I still need to fix the stupid viewport thingy, but I at least know what "really" needs to be done now. One thing at a time. As I stated at the beginning of this post, I suspect the draftsman (or whatever the guy is over there) was in a little deep on all the angles and such on the shield and just got bamboozled. I had to look at it and "think" about it before I fully understood WTF. More later, Nap time.
