COMPLETED - La Meridiana Lipan Apache Warrior wearing War-Medicine headdress

JamesOLeary

Master at Arms
My next bust is the Lipan Apache Warrior from La Meridiana. He is wearing a War-Medicine headdress which is similar to one Geronimo wore. We have Germonimo's in our collection at the Fort Sill National Historic Landmark and Museum where I work.

It is a nice resin kit.

I started painting it today and will take some in-progress photos that I will post later.

Take care and have a great day.
Cheers,
James

To begin the painting of this bust, I first primed it with Tamiya Super Fine Primer. I then used Reaper Tanned Highlight for the whites of the eyes, then two shades of brown for the Iris, and black for the pupil. I then outlined a bunch of stuff in black for preshading.

I then painted the base color for the face. It is a mixture of P3 Bloodstone and Black with a bit of antishine additive.

It looks like I need to touch up the right eye a bit.

Here is the start of skin tone painting process after the base coat. For some reason, I usually start on the left side of the face. Probably because I am right handed. Who knows, It is just the way it happens. :)

Anyway, here you can see the beginnings of the shading and highlighting process. In the hollow of the left cheek you can see the dark shadows prior to blending.

Thanks, guys. I did not get any work done on him today. Hopefully tomorrow I can get some more done on the skin tones and take some better photos.

Then I started painting the shirt. I started by painting a base color, then shaded and highlighted. I did this in sections, starting with the collar and front of the shirt, then moving on to the right arm and finally the left arm. While painting the shirt, I also added a circular pattern like the box art depicts. In these photos you can see completed parts, in-progress parts (right arm), and not quite started parts (left arm).

What paints are you using, Jim?

Paul,
I am using mostly Reaper paints for the skin tones and have tried Scale 75 paints for the clothing items. The Scale 75 paints seem to be working nice.

Are you going to Soonercon this weekend? I am not sure if I will be going or not, but if I do, I hope to have this guy done for the show.

Cheers,
James
