Comparing pigments

Found this one on You Tube,

So,let's see the difference between the VALLEJO and the MIG pigments;

[by the way ,this is also my experience...] :blink

Greetings,Ron.

I have no experience with either MIG or Vallejo. My pigment of choice is Bragdon powder. This comes out of the railroad department. It works very well for flat surfaces but it is not so heavy as the Mig pigment. Now glossy surfaces it doesnt work at all. But then I don't build glossy tanks :D

And cost is another issue. for about $7 I get 3x the amount of the MIG powder.

Did you know that this video is by Ken Abrams? He is one of the modelers here so you can ask him directly. At the moment, he has a Bronco tankette on the bench.

Check out his other videos as well.

Regards,

That don't sound like Ken, sounds like Scott Girvan from SMA. Maybe Ken uploaded it for him for some reason.

Wonder how the AK Interactive pigments fared (faired...).

Yeah, that's me. eh?

:silly:

The video was a response for a thread on another forum, showing the main difference between those two products, more specifically the binder properties of MIG versus Vallejo. It wasn't a "this is better than that" or a "this is how to apply them" type video, merely a response to another conversation on pigments.

The glossy surface wasn't meant to represent any modeling, simply the strength of the binder in the MIG Productions product versus the Vallejo product.

I use both brands as well as the new AK pigments, they all have their merits. I even still have pastel chalks and Doc Obrien's and ... the list goes on.

Bob the AK stuff is nice, probably in between how these two behaved.

LOL...that's cause yours is from your hometown ;) Ken's definitely got that Bahston thing going on ;) I still hear some hickish intonations in things I say that come from the North Country of NY ;)

The Vallejos are stickier, have used both. Ken, don't let MP shine you on, he understands Yankee just fine, Thank Yew! BTW, Ken, I used your pigment technique this weekend, I really like how it turned out! Pix to follow, but thanks for sharing the wisdom!! :notworthy

O my,...didn't know that 'OUR' KEN ABRAMS was behind this video!!! :woohoo:
Now if someone doesn't believe me,I can always say;Ken has proof on 'tape'!!!

I have seen Ken in action on You Tube before.....VERY ENTERTAINING!

Like the MIG pigments, but do use all kinds of pigments, many times from the art supply store,
As a 'cheap Dutchman' I find the stuff from the art supply store, very good in price quality
ratio!!!

@Martin;If I see those BIG beer glasses on the OCTOBERFEST....I think your right!

Greetings,Ron.
