Comments on posts?

It was some time since i posted here but now i put up some pics of my ongoing builds, I post pretty much on FB and get comments and likes, and here you get a few comments (mostly from the same few people) always appreciate that :) but there is the feeling that noone see your work and after a day your post are so far down in the list so noone bother looking anymore i guess, see a big difference since i joined the forum, then it was fun to log in and read the comments on your build and get inspiration to do further, now you have a thumbs up at the best :idonno MP and James and a few others, you are always giving a comment even if it is just the "thumbs up" it gives you a feeling that someone likes your work and makes it worth the effort to post more.

Well just wanted to get it out and maybe i'm wrong

Hopeto see more people commenting, i will do my best :good:

greetings Mats

I guess Forums like this is a dying breed Mats, everyone has gone to Facebook. I refuse to go there for multiple reasons, none of which I will get into here.

I'm glad you took the time to post your work but you do have to remember that we don't have the viewership of Facebook. I can't compete with that. I suspect you have more Friends than we have active members right now.

I think one problem is we have too many forums/topics to post on. That's going to be corrected on the new site.

As I said in the past, when the forum dies I'll be the one who turns out the lights.

I will do my best to get better on posting my builds here too not just on fb, great work you do to keep this great site up and running!

Actually I think this forum is the perfect size. I've been on forums with fewer members than this and it is hard to keep the interest going but too large a site and you get lost. Even with this site I have a hard time keeping up with all that is going on. Guys that stay current on multiple forums boggle my mind. :gogo

Yes, I think some tidying up is in order when the new site comes online and reducing the number of Campaigns is a great idea.

As for the thumbs up I know I don't always have time to comment on everyone's post so I appreciate even this small gesture.

Guys like James, Luiz and Pup that always stop in to comment rock. :ro:

(y) is a great quick way to say you like it if you don't have time to write a long comment that's true :)

It is the right size. It is true that Facebook gets more comments and likes but one must put up with a LOT of garbage on timelines to see it. for example, my twelve year old sometimes hovers over my shoulders when he sees some of the work posted on Facebook but I shoo him away. Why? Well, I love wheeled military models and gravitate to Anthony "SuperDope" Guarderas builds but he has a 'potty mouth.' My timeline gets filled with political and religious divisive posts. While I use a program called FB Purity to filter out a lot, some still gets through.

In other words, this is a safer place to view and receive commentary. It doesn't have the exposure but it also limits the risks.

Regards,

I too think the forum is jut the right size. Another thing that this offers and FB can never hope to touch is the outreach & aspect of knowledge here. by that I mean, if you ask a technical question here, you get a very nice an professional response! Look back at some of the questions from myself under the HEP ME column, that is a very nice feature! What I do not care for with FB is that, while you get a ton of "likes" not many of those are from people sho are builders, so they are just basically liking it because they know you. Allow me an example:
One of my FB fans is a car guru on this one particular type car. he recently posted a pic of this mid-60's automobile, and it got a ton of likes, including me doing so as well. One person however asked him some particulars about the car, & why it was not in local competitions as a result of it's striking looks, and he had no issue admitting that in many ways, the car was not correct, from the paint to some modifications to a number of things, some that once pointed out really glared at you. the end result was that while I knew nothing of that type of car and could never have advised him as to any question or other info he may have had related to it, I gave it a like for the simple reason that it was pretty.
The same can be particularly true in scale modeling. Many if not most on FB would not know that certain types of armor or aircraft would have been used in various theaters or painted in particular schemes and will give it a like because it strikes their fancy, whereas here when I see someone that has the shadowing just right or the ground work just so, I compliment them on it because it not only strikes my fancy, but I have an appreciation of the level of thought and work that goes into it.

I don't use Face-Hole, and I swear I never will. I already spend way too much time in front of my computer. I tolerate ZERO drama. I don't crave sphincter kissing. Folk who seek me had 22 years to use the phone book to do so, or drop by. My dearest actual face-to-face friends do. My High School reunion classmates think I live in my Papa's grand house in West Des Moines. Ding-a-lings!!

I know people who's very minute-by-minute lives are on face-hole and I feel sorry for them. Their lives seem small and lonely. One woman got "unfriended" and youldathunk her eldest child had been snatched by an Egyptian or something! If others choose to face-hole, that is their very own Constitutional choice to make.

It's a big old world out there. Just like it ever was. Life! Live it! Get some sunburn, get some mud on ya! smell the fresh-cut grass. Blow a "raspberry" at a random baby, Look up, in wonder at the night-time Heavens. Go visit your Grandma. eat ice cream for no reason at all! Model whenever you want to. Open up a Kit and free your inner Monster, man.

I chose M/A because it is FUN! I do not feel obligated comment on everyone's model builds. NO disrespect is ever intended!!
We are all Modelers. We are all different. We are all the same.

That being said, I'll step down off my soap box. For NOW! Muhhu HA ha hahaha HA!! :tomato :eek:ldguy :pilot :drinks

I hear you Matts. Unfortunately we have a wide interest base and a smaller membership so not everyone reads every post. So if you build something it might not be someones cup of tea and so they dont look. Not bashing anyone, its just the nature of our group.
Now as to the thumbs up, well personally I post a fair amount of responses and after a while I sound to me like a broken record. I find it easier to let someone know I have seen and enjoyed by using the thumbsup. And if I have a question or a thought on something I will add text as well. I dont mean to offend anyone, but I am trying to let you know I have read a thread. Sometimes I just hurt too much to think of something to say and same thing, I try to let you know I saw it. I hope you keep posting here because you and Veerle do some awesome work and some very cool outside the box thinking kind of work.

James

I think of forums as a bar stool. If I want to have a conversation about football, I go to a pub at 1 PM on Sunday and have a pint with like minded people. They don't have to be Jints fans to have an enjoyable time.

This place is the spot I'll check in to see what's going on in my modeling world. I love models, I love talking about models. Im not sure how Facebook would work as that, it seems like it would be a large volume with low percentage of like interests. I'd rather be in a smaller group with higher percentage.

In terms of posting, I look at almost everything (although my interests tend to stay below 1945), but generally don't post unless it's to offer help or an opinion or ask a question. It may be 'forum fatigue'. I've been involved with them for a long time now, so I might just be tired of attaboys. I don't know, I appreciate every post and the time it takes to do it and the least I can do is pony up a response, but I generally tend to put it off as I surf through with attention split between a lot of different things.

Maybe it's a sign of the times. The computer used to be at a desk, I focused on it while I was there. Now it's on the go, so I check things when I'm in front of the TV, in the kitchen, on the deck, etc. never giving it my full attention.

Again, I'm here for the conversation. I'll always respond to a post like this (even when I'm trying to will the Pack to destroy Dallas) or if there's a new product that I think is cool or that I don't think is cool and would like to point out something that may save someone a few bucks (I just missed an interception).

I just realized I'm doing exactly what I mentioned above.

Right now, I'm at the bench. I have the game on. I want to model, I spent yesterday cleaning and rearranging the shop. I've had a Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea Seaview in front of me for two hours now. I haven't picked up the knife, the very same hobby knife I bought weeks ago on Gator's recommendation, but haven't used yet. I put the Macbook on the bench and checked 538, the news, MA, the weather. I'm missing the game, not building a model, nothing. Maybe I want to talk about modeling more than I want to do it.

It used to be I would steal 30 minutes of bench time every other day or so and it was heaven. Now I have hours at a time and I just look at all the stuff I'm not building.

Well I could say more, but the short answer is we are to small a group to ignore the posts of others because we're not interested. Not every thing flies and no every thing rolls on the ground and shouldn't make any difference anyway. If I go to a bar and no one talks to me I go to another bar.

:)

I don't have a computer in the shop so I avoid this problem. :drinks

I used to be way more active, but the last year has been full of twists and turns with being diagnosed with Crohn's, starting a new job and having a minion on the way. That plus the computer decided to crap out last month. But I try to check back from time to time.

I am a member of several Facebook groups but I will say that they tend to be way to impersonal and usually end up turning into mudslinging matches. That's why I love MA so much. (y)

as far as I'm concerned a guy eating popcorn is goo enough for interest .

Too many time there's nothing else I can say or there's too many things to acknowledge.

Cheers, Christian B)

I find it difficult to get on most times due to life in general. With work, family life and two small girls, there are times I just don't have the energy to go on the forum.

I do check things almost every day (as a routine for my decompress time) and I only frequent two forums). not sure how others post on so many different forums.

I gave up Facebook years ago once I found out it was telling people where I had been, based on pictures people posted!

I will admit I am one who doesn't comment on everything (my main interest is aircraft) but, I do try to leave something if it catches my interest, no matter what the subject!

Will have to try harder in the future! Just need more time!

:)

Well nice to see all responses to this, that shows that it is a great forum with dedicated modellers, i will surely hang around and post my builds here in the future to :)
