Clipped wing Spitfire

phantom II

Master at Arms
In an effort to regain my mental health, i decided to put the ki-46 aside and work on this Spitfire that I've been dying to do anyway.

What a beautiful kit. I wish more companies would follow Tamiya's example on this. Nice cockpit and weel wells .

I only opened a few holes and added these Eduard seat belts. I did manage to break off the rudder pedal in the process and chased it several times.

I glued the pedal and the stick in place and closed it up.

Anyhow, that's where it's at. Not bad for me in just a few day's time.

Thanks for looking . Comments welcomed.

Beautiful kit, great detail in cockpit! Is this humbrol 78 for interior b. green color? Great shade :coolio

All the best!
Dusan.

Hi Dusan. Unfortunately it is a Color of Eagles shade. Real shame, they were going out of business as I was falling in love with their paints.

I think I came close to doing this on my Hurricane build but it was two shades of Vallejo on top of one another.

I recently bought a few Italeri paints and I am really, really disappointed. Example, B. green like Humbrol 78 or the interior green (USAF) looks awful, none of the colors even match to Humbrol shade...

While I was moving on with the main assembly I decided to add some wire mess to the radiator as a means of enhancement.

Note the cannon barrels which came as part of the wing were not a good idea . I don't even have any tubing small enough to replace the barrels :facepalm . Got some brass on the way.

The wing to fuselage point is the only location that required a bit of attention . A small piece of evergreen sprue and a dab of Mr surfacer made short work out of it ! :)
I recently got some Mr color leveling thinner to work with this and it works much better now.

Finally, A coat of primer and some oil for the panel washes .
Now is the hard part . Waiting for it to dry sufficiently :bang head Arrrg !

Thanks for looking . Comments are welcomed . :)

Not knowing what you have access to , you might try these:
I find Lifecolor's US004 Interior Green.

Model Master also has an acrylic equivalent but I have not tried either.

I still think Vallejo has some good options as well

What a shame . I don't think the Italeri paints are available here . I like Humbrol but there's the patience thing about waiting for them to dry . :vmad I like them best for dry brushing anymore.

Wish I could be more help .

I just love the personal touches on kits that are made, the mesh looks great! as does the build, really nice Christian

Thanks for looking in and for the encouragements.

I thought this would be a very simple build but I just ran into the same snag that I often do when taking these rabbit paths .
Namely, no one seems to have knowledge of the color of these dark Malta Spitfires

After reading pages of arguments and speculation on Brit modeler I decided to go with the one that sounded .
most down to Earth

These planes were shipped to Malta on board the USS Wasp and were repainted in route.
No British paint was taken on board and the only paint available in large enough quantities in the ship stores was the blue gray that the carriers metal deck pieces were painted in. ( According to John Snyder of White Ensign )

Thank for looking. Maybe this Webb site will be easier to work with tomorrow

That'sll be interesting. :popcorn

Well after a few tomorrows I'm back.
Since I've decided the color I wanted to shoot on this plane was USN. Deck blue 20B I tried to locate some to use so as to take some of the guess work out of the equation.
That turned to be as easy as finding fine Frog hairs . :rotf

So, out came various test shots on one of the test planes.

After several tries I settled on this mix.
