"Can we keep him, Sarge?"

I was able to pretty much complete this figure today. I still need to dirty up his uniform, but that will wait until just before I attach him to the base. I think he turned out fairly well.

Here are some photos of how he will interact with the guy with the puppy and the squad leader. I was playing with different types of light and settings on the camera on my phone.

And then there is going to be a kneeling figure that will be trying to pet the puppy...

The primer coat caused the figure to look washed out in the light, so I tried enhancing, but it did not turn out all that well.

Further from the audience, behind the squad leader, will be a guy leaning against a box that is on top of the bunker and will be looking towards the puppy. Here he is how he will be positioned.

To the right and to the rear of the guy holding the staff pole, will be this guy wearing the stateside OG 107 fatigues. He is a conversion of a figure from Royal Model. I will finish him after the two who are flanking the guy with the puppy.

After these photos were taken, I started painting the eyes of the two guys flanking the guy with the puppy. I hope to finish one of them this week.

Thanks for looking.
Cheers,
James

Interested in how you're painting the face. I started painting the Baron and just gave it a base coat all over. Can you give us a step by step please?

I will try to do that with the figure I just started painting. The photos may not be the clearest, but they should explain the methods I use.

James

I might have to do the "step-by-step" on my next project as I am trying to get this diorama done by next month if possible.

Here is the fourth figure. I still need to dirty up his uniform, but I am calling him done for now. Some of the photos are not as clear as I would have liked, but you can get the gist of what the figure is like. He will be leaning up against a box on top of a bunker looking towards the puppy.

I also got the fifth figure started. Hopefully I can get him completed by next weekend.

This is pretty much the angle that the viewer will see when viewing from the front of the diorama.

Thanks, guys.

I am chugging right along. However, I attempted to fix something on the right side of the face of the kneeling guy and messed it up, so I might not use him now. I found a figure I had converted back in 2015 but never used and painted him this weekend. Since there were several Hawaiian Soldiers in 2d Battalion, 47th Infantry (Mech), I thought I would make sure a figure of one was included in this diorama. I also wanted to show that color patches were still sometimes worn, so I painted a color shoulder patch. I will dirty him up a bit later or I might keep him fairly clean as if he just recently changed uniforms.

Thanks, Guys.

I completed the sixth figure for this diorama. He is a conversion of a Royal Model mechanic with a Hornet head, Verlinden right hand with a can in it, and a Hobby Fan helmet. Since it was fairly common to see an occasional Soldier from the battalion wearing a set of stateside fatigues because their others were dirty or torn, I wanted to show the different uniform. Since it is an older uniforms, I added field grey to the base color I normally use to make it look even more faded. I painted full color patches. In his helmet band is a pack of Newports. The beer in his hands is Carling's Black Label which was the most commonly issued beer to the battalion. I did not bother painting the Mitchell camouflage pattern onto the helmet cover since I was going to fade it out and dirty it up like they turned out after a short time in the sun, dust, and mud.

Sorry about the photos looking washed out. I think I was holding the light too close.

In addition to completing the SPC 4 wearing the stateside fatigues, I also dirtied up some of the uniforms of the other figures a bit. When viewing from the front, the figures will be arranged with the last figure I completed to the left front at this angle looking towards the guy holding the puppy...

20200209_102809.jpg

Then slightly to the right and back a bit will be this guy...

20200209_102718.jpg

Behind him in relation to the front viewing angle will be this guy...

20200209_102600.jpg

Then to the right of that group and pretty much centered in the scene will be the guy holding the puppy...

20200209_102651.jpg

And to the right of the guy with the puppy and slightly behind him will be this guy leaning on a box on top of the bunker...

20200209_102848.jpg

And then this guy will be slightly in front of him...

20200209_102942.jpg

The last figure is in the works. I changed out the head on the guy who was kneeling to pet the puppy. That head is turning out better than the one I originally put on the figure. I hope to have that figure completed this weekend. Then I can do the groundwork and build the bunker to get the diorama done.

Thanks for looking.
Cheers,
James

There is still a lot for me to do in order to complete this figure. I changed the head out on this figure with one from Hornet that is more expressive and is more in line with playing with a puppy than the head I had originally attached to the figure that showed little if any expression.

The boonie hat is from a Bravo 6 figure.

I know he looks a bit rough right now, but he should look a bit better when I get him finished.

Thanks for looking.

James
