"Can we keep him, Sarge?"

There is still a lot for me to do in order to complete this figure. I changed the head out on this figure with one from Hornet that is more expressive and is more in line with playing with a puppy than the head I had originally attached to the figure that showed little if any expression.

The boonie hat is from a Bravo 6 figure.

I know he looks a bit rough right now, but he should look a bit better when I get him finished.

Thanks for looking.
Cheers,
James

I like where this is heading. (y)

"Can we keep him, Sarge?"

A lot has happened since the last time I posted in regards to this diorama. I have changed figures a few times, made a piece of a bunker, added a puppy so the title changed, and started work on the ground work. This past Thursday or Friday, I really don't remember which, I started the groundwork using a picture frame I bought at Hobby Lobby that I added some plywood backing to, emplaced the insert that I use for securing the base when transporting my models and dioramas, and mixed up some brown Magic Sculpt to make the terrain. Once the Magic Sculpt was applied to the base, I used a toothbrush to create some texture to the groundwork and added some small stones. I then used some M113 tracks to make some impressions in the groundwork where the M113s were used to clear some of the area and smash down vegetation for fields of fire. This allows for the diorama to be able to depict Grunts from either 2-47th Infantry (Mech), 2-39th Infantry, or 4-39th Infantry who worked together on several operations. Next, the partial bunker was placed in the corner, the tree put in place, and then some dried plant materials were pressed into the putty. I placed the figures in their locations, then removed them so the putty could dry for painting and latter addition of more vegetation and the accessories.

Once the putty dried, I painted the groundwork first with Tamiya Earth, then drybrushed the surface seveal times with each coat being lightened. I then glued the figures to the base, added the puppy and cat, and started to add vegetation and accessories.

I realized that I had not drilled the hole in the base of the container I will be using for storage and transport, so I stopped working on the diorama so I could mark the lid where the hole needed to be drilled. Unfortunately, when I did this, somehow the diorama started falling backward and upside down. Three figures broke off and the boonie hat of the guy holding the puppy came loose. After a long chain of curse words being uttered, I put the diorama and figures aside for a day or so.

I was so demoralized after that happened as I have been working on this diorama for a long time, and I should have known better than to try to make the mark the way I had done. Lack of sleep causes some bad decisions to be made.

"Can we keep him, Sarge?"

After getting some rest, I started putting this thing back together. I was able to glue the figures back together as two had broke off at their boots and the third only just broke loose, so that was an easy fix. I touched up the areas that had to be glued back together with some paint. It seemed to be halfway decent, so I continued on with adding accessories like ration, beer, and Coke cases, letters, a Life magazine, comic books, cigarette packs, canteen, flashlight, helmets, and M16s. The paper products are a combination of MecModels, Duplicata, and ETA Diorama Accessories.

The helmets are from Armand Bayardi and have the suspension system inside the liner that will be viewable to the audience. I painted the Mitchell Camo Pattern on the helmet covers, but it really doesn't matter as they were dirtied and faded once emplaced on the sandbag and the ground. The flashlight is from Bravo 6.

So here is the completed diorama, "Can we keep the puppies, Sarge?"

I wish the photos came out better, but this is what I have right now. I will try again later this week to see if I can get some better photos.

Thanks for looking. Now on to the Native American Flute Player bust I am working on for work and the "Standdown Shenanigans" diorama.

I hope everyone and their families are doing well and remain safe during this COVID-19 thing.

Cheers,
James

Looking good James, Please update your email address on your profile I see emails bounce from you all the time. Need to make sure it's current and correct.

Thanks for the reminder. I updated it prior to posting these photos. I am not sure why the email address that was in my profile was what it was. I must have gotten distracted when I was setting up my profile years ago. It is correct now.

Great, just want to make sure you make the jump. (y)

Love the scene. :dude

Thanks, Guys. I am glad y'all like it. It was a fun diorama to build, just took a while to get it done due to a bunch of stuff going on these past several months. I am glad I was able to fix the figures when they broke off. By the way, the cat is a tribute to my cat Snowball who passed away no Christmas. I miss him. He used to follow me around and when I would stop, he would sit beside me like this cat is doing to the Squad Leader.
