Big Freeze

You din't pay them Yankee weather-gissers no mind, then?
We were prepared with a generator to run the fridge and water pump and one light. We had plenty of food and our stove is gas so we could cook. It was kind of like glamping I guess...

We had interlock and 30 amp 240 plug installed ready for anything. Now we got the option to power the house, we'll never lose power again. That's just how it works.

And winter is back, with a vengeance. After teasing us with spring like conditions for the last couple of weeks, Mother Nature has presented us with a winter storm (not quite a blizzard). Snowing, wind at 30 km/h, gusts up to 50 km/h, 200m visibility, -30 C windchill forecast to continue until noon Wednesday.

In Canada it is a blizzard when it meets the 4, 40, 400 rule. Duration of 4+ hours, sustained winds of 40 km/h and less than 400m visibility.

On the bright side it's Shrove Tuesday, time for pancakes.

Cheers,
RichB

Yeah the 3 foot drifts I had to walk through to get to my car were no fun. Got on the road to go for an appointment and turned around at Timmies with breakfast to take home. Appointment rescheduled. It sucks out there.

It is sporting out there this morning. We got 36.5 cm (about 14.5 in) yesterday, not counting the snow drifts 2-3 times that depth. Under this, especially in residental areas, is the ice from the melt we had from the last couples of week. Helped dig a neighbour out that got stuck backing out of thier driveway.

I've got my private ski hills on each side of the driveway, 1.5 m (5 ft) high.

Now that it has stopped snowing we've got a cold weather warning until Friday, daytime high of -20 C, with windchills -30 C, overnight lows -30 C, windchill -40 C.

Time to head back out and finish up shovelling before it gets stupid cold.

Cheers,
RichB
