Academy M18 Hellcat

This is the 1/35 offering from Academy. I have had this one in the stash for a couple of years and thought it would be a good continuing exercise in OD weathering. My first open top AFV. Detailing the interior first adds considerably to the work load. (you:”Duh!”). So…pictures are: 1) Box art, 2) interior detailed and ready to button up, 3)buttoned and ready for OD. Thanks for looking. :v

More later,

Bill

This is one I will be watching as it is one of the tanks I really would love to get myself soon.

How is the detail etc of this kit?

:popcorn

Hello Terry and Dave.

Dave - The detail is respectable (OK, but not Tamiya or Dragonquality, but a bronze medal is fine I guess). ;)
It includes some crates, backpacks, shells and shell tubes, for a small bonus.

A more complete review is at PMMS here:

Good hunting!

Smaller and lighter = faster, I guess. :hmmm

I'm presume the open top was a mixed blessing. Nice when the weather was good, but miserable when it was snowing or raining. They must have had some sort of tarpaulin cover. I'm sure that's what the longitudinal bar on top was for.

Bill

To start with open tops were designed for real men. :D

Anything hitting it from above wouldn't matter if it had a top or not. :eek:hmy:

Looking good Bill :v

Very nice! I've got this kit in my stash, mostly finished but still with a little ways to go. Looks like yours looks quite a bit better than mine.

Thanks Tony! Thanks Adam!

I'll see what we can do with this bad-boy.

Thanks for checking in,

Bill

Nice work, I like the tank, I have also one in stock and build one several years ago, it's a nice kit to build, have fun!

The base coat is Tamiya Olive Drab (XF-62). I sprayed it full color first and then with successively lighter coats mixed with Buff. I brush painted the tops of some of the details with the same mix as the final sprayed color.

I’m going to weather this using the techniques demonstrated in Bob Letterman’s “Weathering Olive Drab” in the Campaign section. You can see the progress over there.
Thanks for checking in and for the interest and encouragement.

Cheers,

Bill
