A pair of desert snakes

Thanks!! Don't look too close. They are just an illusion. I also made back up compasses and door handles, and that should do it for detail. I could add some more, but I think this will do.The pilots gun sight consisted of two very small clear parts. As I was trying to assemble them, the smaller front Paine flew out of the tweezers. Only it and God know where it went. I also made small wind reflectors out of paper on the debris reflectors. Gary S.

Ah that's what those are. yeah I've noticed that before. Gary you're displaying what I always call that intimate knowledge of a subject. Folks like you who know their subject inside out and show those details others overlook.

Press on!! :soldier

Happy New Year!! It sounded like a war zone here last night.
I used the cable cutters on an Apache I built a long time ago and gave to my son in law. So I had to make them from left over parts for the S model. I also had to make an antenna for the W model. I had one and needed two. The rocket launchers were also assembled. Gary S.

Cable cutters? Like literal cable cutters? I had no idea choppers were equipped with such things.

With the end of the Vietnam War and the development of anti Amor guided rockets, the Cobra's mission changed to fight in Europe where there are a lot of power lines and the need to fly nap of the Earth. I just wonder who tested the cable cutters in flight? Gary S.

The Wire Strike Protection System was developed by Bristol Aerospace Winnipeg under a contract from the Canadian Forces. A CH-136 Kiowa body was mounted on a flat bed truck and driven into a variety of electric and telecommunication cables at speeds between 15-60 mph and at 0-45 degrees of yaw. As that only tested the upper cutter, the US Army Research Lab at Langley conducted pendulum tests. An OH-58 was secured to a 196 ft cable, pulled back and released to strike the wires at 22 ft height. Tests were also conducted using a UH-1H and AH-1S.

AETE Cold Lake conducted flight testing for handling and EMI qualities with the cutters installed.

Cheers,

Since the weather is going to be crappy for painting, I decided to work on the W's main rotor. The problem is that the direction of spin is wrong. So I separated the blades from the main rotor head. Then holes were drilled and small pins were added. Now I'm cleaning up the seam while the blades are off. The pitch change horns will have to be modified also. Gary S.

Attached the main rotor blades to the hub with epoxy with a little of pitch. Our pilots would bleed off the emergency hydraulic accumulator after shutting down, by raising and lowering the collective and sometimes the blades were quite pitched when done. The Monogram blades and hub are one piece and are much more detailed. Problem is that the pitch horns need a gap with the hub. So I broke out the saw which worked out. The hub and blades had a lot of molding seams which need addressing. Plus nock out marks and sinkers on the underside. The kits mast was missing so I had to modify an extra one from the W's kit by cutting off a section on the Jesus nut end with some reshaping. The pitch change tubes needed shortening also. BTW the torque of the Jesus nut is 600 ft. lbs. This was done with a large torque wrench. We would straddle the blade, Lie back on the blade and use our feet and legs to push the torque wrench. The 20mm guns were also assembled and installed. The weather is too cold to paint and we might get snow tomorrow. Gary S.

Now were getting freezing rain with the possibilities of the power going out. We grew up in S. FL and the snow is a real big deal. Gary S.

All we got after repeated dire warnings was an ugly dusting. Bit of freezing rain also. That's nice coverage Gary, it'll be gone tomorrow afternoon.
