No,no,no my friends, not the model but REFERENCE!

Disappointed?...don't be,I will soon get back to modelling.[if everything goes well]

Got some pictures taken from a 'crazy 88',this time an PAK 43,which is a remaining piece from the heavy fighting in the town of SUSTEREN [NL] during 1944/1945.

Here we go....

And of course some people got a tendency for vandalisme...
The piece some times get oversprayed by 'graffity artists' and sometimes they do other 'funny'things to it.Here is a example....that black thing on the gunshield is a bicycle lock ,sometimes during WW 2 the Germans used wire in those holes to hold foliage.

Translation in a nutshell; From September 1944 to January 1945 SUSTEREN and its surroundings was front area.
it's population was evacuated in November 1944 by command of the Germans,to the village of POSTERHOLT,after very heavy fighting Susteren was liberated by the British on January 17 1945.

[January 17, 1945 was the beginning of OPERATION BLACKCOCK,the battle for the ROER TRIANGLE,
The town is just 15 minutes by car from the place I live]

That's it for now....

Greetings,Ron.

That is it? No more?

Yes, I am greedy!

By the way, did you notice that the outer starboard (right from the gunner's view) shield was welded back on?

Regards,

Thanks Ron, great pictures. Are you going to do this gun or is this a general reference. If reference I'll move it to the Real Thing section.

Well,it's reference,I put it in the gallery under 'Walkarounds',but somehow it can not be seen there.
If you put it in the gallery under the Real thing section, that's fine with me.

Maybe someday I will do this one in modelform, but not very soon....got still many ideas which I like to do first,... if I will find time to do so.

Greetings,Ron.

That is one mean looking gun, thanks for the pics Ron.

Looks like you don't need to worry about "orange peel" when painting one of these.

Tom

Just see how much the difference is between a FLAK 88mm and a PAK 88mm.

My bad.....
Somehow missed PAGE 2.....yeah,I know.... :geek

according to my meager research so far, the only difference between the 36 and 37 are the types of dials used on the right side- the 36 had the more primitive set up while the 37 had a more modern clock like set. I should get a book on these, have to drop by barnes and nobel and check out the bargain stuff.

I already PM'd mike, hope he finds something. CR

That looks like a 37, thanks CR

Word on the street is you've turn into some sort of gun nut... :ro:

It's facinating stuff sure nuff. :mpup

Nut is right! I like mechanics, and this 88 is just great looking. I'm gonna score both versions of the Flakvierling soon enough too. It is very interesting and different. I'm lugging the Box to a friend Tuesday- all he does is aircraft- i'm gonna convert JC too. lol

Greetings Ron;

Nice Reference ......... For the Pak-43..... It was a kick ass tank killer.
The counter part to it was the KWK-43. Same gun, but with a tank mounting.
the gun Was used in the King Tiger. She shot a 88mm, ((Pak-43/L70) KWK-43/L70) round.

The Flak-36/37 shot a 88mm Flak-36/37-L36 round.
The Tiger I used the KWK-36, shooting the KWK-36/L36 round

Note.... the L designates the length of the brass only, not the over all length
of the round.
There is quit a bit of difference in L36 & L70.

My Favorite 88mm gun is the Flak-18, with the one piece barrel, and the
Pak-43.
Some of the German Flak 105mm & 155mm guns are cool also.

....... :D,

Mike
