7.5 cm PaK 40/4 auf RSO

Hey guys - thanks again.

RICK,

:ro: ! Great Job ! Looks Killa' ! You've got that Hairspray method down ! Outstanding !!

Question:
I was wondering as well ... What did you use as your Dunkelglelb ? Is it a lightened Dk yellow ?

How long did you let th Future rest before shooting th hairspray ? Overnight ?

How long did you let the Hairspray rest before th scrubbing ? I've heard of some guys leaving it over night & some guys will only let it set for 2 hours or so.

Thanx in Advance & I look forward to seeing you at AMPS in April !!

Again ... Another Rockin' build !! :ro: :dude (y) :notworthy

ERIK

Erik,

The base color was Dk Yellow and Flat White, nothing scientific just mixed until I liked the shade and spray.

There are about 3 levels of hairspray on this and I did something different on each - just because of time constraints. On the short side I was scrubbing after only an hour - on the other hand one of the layers sat overnight before I had a chance to get back to it. It really didn't seem to matter all that much.

The two things that seem to make the most difference are:

How thick you a layer of paint that you are trying to remove.

How thick a coating of hairspray that you applied.

Yep-gotta love DML instructions!!!

Rick

Arrgghhh!! I missed this post!!!

.... how can I resume what I feel after looking at your RSO .... mmmm ... I know! :notworthy :notworthy :notworthy

Stunning! ... you´re a master of the hairspray technique!

RICK,

I've also heard some guys talk specifically about th brand of Hair spray .... One guy in AMPSCV recommends Tre-Semme & He also de-cants it , so that he can shoot it through his airbrush ...

Thoughts ?

Thanx again & Awesome Job ! :ro: :ro:

ERIK

Erik,

I know that Tre-Semme is Mike Rinaldi's brand of choice and there is no arguing with his results! I've only used the cheapest thing on the shelf so I can't compare.

As for decanting I could see how that might be useful in controlling the thickness of the layers. Probably not a bad idea now that you mention it.

I am probably the last person to get into all of the nuances with - I really tend to move fast and shoot from the him when I work. I'm pretty lazy when it comes to calculations and being precise about the techniques and measurements.

I'm looking forward to trading ideas and tricks with you at the show.

Rick

My type of HS is the cheap stuff, like Rick, but only I get the pump type HS. I unscrew the cap/pump and pour into the airbrush when needed. The airbrush gives you more control of where and how much you want on it. I do two layers of HS, using the air to dry the first coat, then apply the second.
I'm too lazy to wait too long for things to dry so I find quick ways to work with paint and HS.

Hope this is of use to someone.

Looking forward to seeing you guys at the show.

Rob

Right on Rick !! I have yet to try th Hairspray .... but in due time ! Thanx for th insight !!

Sometimes shootin' from th hip gets you where you wanna be !!

True Dat ROB !!!! WE'll meet up !!

See y'all there !!

Well...well, I've finally made it back.

When last we spoke I was awaiting a set of Fruilmodel tracks for the RSO....they came and here they are.

With the tracks on it was time to bring it all together. Up to this point most of the weathering has been done using artist oils. Now, it's time to get down to the dirty business. Applications of MIG pigments were applied primarily to the lower hull and running gear. I wanted to portray the vehicle as if it had slogged through some wet and mud so darker colors were the rule. I also wanted to make sure that the dirt/mud had the look of fresh moisture - to accomplish this I mixed Model Masters Acrylic Gloss. Mud splashes were done by the flick of the brush.....

During this same time I worked on a small base using the same colors. The remnants of snow were made from micro balloons "glued" into place using Future.

Just as I was finishing I met up with Rich Sullivan (R&J Enterprises) and found this figure produced by MK35 in his stash. And now for the final (I think) shots...

Thanks for looking.

Looks awesome. And the base is very neat. (y) (y) The figure is very well painted, but not to cause offense, not my cup of tea. I'm going to have to give this kit another try seeing how good it can look. BTW where do you find micro balloons? I havent seen those in years.
James

Looks fantastic Rick

James,

Ive just bought a bottle of microballoons from HobbytownUSA to use for some impending snow scenes :)

What an outstanding job, Rick! :dude It is awesome overall, but the paint job is particularly cool! :eek:hmy: Everything looks like it belongs in the scene... Congratulations for a wonderful build!!! :notworthy
