3. 1/35 M4A1 76 Kit Bash-ish Italeri No 225

One of my least favorite modeling proclivities is having partial kits laying about with no purpose in life.

My Formations conversion of the Italeri No225 left just such a problem for me.

eBay has a couple of sellers that deal in selling single sprue sets, so I picked up some additional pieces to flesh out the leftovers from the kit and started bashing it together.

Now, all was good and well, and I was going on unencumbered with any complicated facts or such, and then I got Sauled!

A friendly message from Saul informed of that which I didn’t even know I didn’t know.

The Italeri 76 barrel was copied from a –

“... but the 76mm gun barrel on Italeri's Shermans is based on a demilitarized museum example where the barrel is drilled through and covered with a sheet metal sleeve which appears as a step.”

Man, the crash of reality, once something is known, it cant simply be, Unknown.

So, I Sauled off the barrel and fit a correct one, and now, like Ripley in Alien, I’ve made a clean spot and will have to “fix” a bunch of other annoyances, so, she gets her own work sheet!

All kidding aside, Thank you Saul!

This has been held up a little as I contemplated what to do about the Italeri's turret pistol port door. I don't have a good original picture of it but its gross. I tried some putty and building up Mr. surfacer but nothing came out passable so I found an old Tasca small loader hatch 76 turret and did some surgery.

A more sane individual would have just changed the turret out when he could no longer live with the horrible port but I'd already put so much work into the Italeri turret that i just could'nt give up on it. I have one more 255 and I will just replace the whole turret on it straight away.

Agreed again! In the case of the Sherman, the turret I needed was available but slated for other projects so I just cobbled it up. As for the T-34, there was no turret available until I almost completed it and MiniArt Models released their Yugoslavian War variant.

Watching with great interest.
