2026 Plastic Surgeons Meetings and Other Model Fun!

One of my 5th graders asked for one of my model ships. I chose the Egyptian Felucca to assemble for her as a gift. My sweetie bought me some Plexiglas boxes for protecting and displaying dinky models so I chose one to use. The same AK clear acrylic water gel is applied over tan, for the waters of the Nile. It's curing sort of clear-ish, but one must not rush the chemicals!

Rigging techniques have improved some since I made the first Felucca, so I added a little and dusted the little Nile river sailboat model. "Tizaratti" is the boats name. I don't think she needs to know that this is Arabic for "fart".
It should be cute when it is finished.

But you know one day she will find out. :stinker:

How nice is this, Putting it in a case like this will protect it far longer than a 5th grader will be able to keep it safe.
I given my nephews a couple over the years only to have them disappear with no trace. I don't ask.

I found several photo options for the back panel of Brinlynn's Felucca box. Not so much a vignette, but just to place the boat in a traditional setting. The consensus is that the pyramids of Giza set the proper Egyptian theme. A wash of Tamiya clear blue over the clear water gel Nile base is coming up.

I haven't been awake long enough to do much model making this last week or so. I went and caught myself the Whittier Crud (Thanks Nolan). We're so busy at the transportation department, I just am trying to hang in there and keep the wheels going 'round and 'round.
Cheers.

The ol' Man's pick-up got to be a truck today. Hooked on to a trailer and brough home my Sweetie's new "Grass Hot-Rod". It seems my world is filling with school-bus colored articles. :bm:

She seems well pleased with the new "big block" 46" Cub Cadet, even though it is not equipped with a cigarette lighter.
"Oh Rhino, what awful stuff. This isn't even about modeling!"
Good sir, There is some doubt about whether I will actually get to use the new mowing machine. I did the prep and pre-flight.
The "modeling" part of this is, I have cleverly spent $2700.00 to get my summer Saturday afternoon modeling time back.
Shhh!!! She doesn't know yet!

I'm so jealous of your rich green grass! I got Bermuda emerging and I didn't even know I had bermuda. I've been working the centipede angle.

Today was the only day it didn't rain in the last 16. There are many reasons to enjoy rural living!

The Egyptian guys are aboard. Lion Roar 1/700 figures can be anyone with a little color and a dab of meat (Don might say) for the faces. The more I look at it, the more I can find things that could use some attention. My Sweetie says "Stop looking at it! She'll be thrilled!" She is usually right.

I did swab in some more Tamiya clear blue wash around the edges for good measure after I took this picture.
Thanks for enduring another Serial Poster thread!

I delivered Brinlynn's Egyptian Tizzarati Felucca this morning, in art class. She was thrilled! (even with the crude water base.)
I doubt the wisdom of posting a picture of a minor child, taken at her school on-line, but there is one. Her classmates became very interested in Mr. Rhino's present and 11 (eleven) more of them wished for a TLAR Models ship, like hers. More than one of them offered to buy one. "I cain't put a price on such a thing." :hmm:
Or can I?

With just 3 weeks of school left, it is doubtful I can make many more of these before the end of the school year. Or IS it?
The White Oak Hull and Drydock Company's assembly line has spun up!

First, foamboard bases for the water, cut to fit inside the cubes and elevate the model to increase viewing pleasure. Next, a thick sealing coat of Future is airbrushed on. Then, you WALK AWAY! A skim coat of AK acrylic water gel will follow. Hoping it will cure out more quickly this time. One must not rush the chemicals!
After this, a coat of Tamiya lacquer Shining Silver, then Tamiya clear blue. Wake and waves can be added with the AK gel stuff.

I build every model I create, so there are more than a few, small, finished TLAR vessels floating around here. It seems a shame that they go mostly unappreciated after a turn through model contest season.

This production is in it's infancy. Don't EVEN ask me about adding crewmen yet!

Sounds like you have a few interested parties that like your little jewels. the fact that you have many ships already built can help a lot with the short time left.
For the students a little history to go with each craft might be a plus for them to know what they actually receive.
