1/35th structures

Moon Puppy suggested I post some pics from my gallery on the forum, so here are a couple of a recent build. This is a from scratch 1/35th chateau/hotel that I started on January 1st this year. It is basically from my head, I have no reference photos of any type. It is ultimately going into a rather sizeable diorama I am building, ever so slowly.

The core of the building was made using standard 3/16" foam core. The timbers are 1/4" square basswood and the white stucco is sculptamold. Made 3 masters for the windows, put them in rubber and cast the 49 windows from resin. The shingles are made of 0.020" styrene, using Claude Joachim's method explained in his book about the Clervaux castle (talk about exhaustive! the shingles I mean!)

I know there are over 14 6" x 12" sheets of styrene used in the roof alone!

I also hi-jacked Claude's method for the stones on the bottom, making a mold out of clay using small stones, a lego mold box and casting with hydrastone.

Currently working on the patio/mezzanine for the front, will likely be an outdoor restaurant overlooking the river, in the dio.

Hope you enjoy the pics!

Thanks,
Mike R

Great stuff Mike, thanks for showing us!

If you're not already aware, you might want to look for a local plastic supplier, where you can
buy sheets of styrene...or somewhere like here...

lots cheaper than Evergreen.

And here's a good place to buy stripwood in bulk...

Hey Mike, I'm sorry, should have been more direct about how to use the Gallery

Here read up on this, may make it easier.

Now if I may be so bold...I'll post your pictures for you on your last post.

Fantastic work. This is quite interesting how you go about building a building. Looking forward to more. In case you are interested there are some excellent books here that may be of interest to you. They are inexpensive and quite good. Here are reviews I did of them.

James,
Thank you for the review links. Those books look
Very interesting. Any idea who has them in stock in the
States?

Moon Puppy, was taking your advice about posting pics
In their own thread, so folks could comment on them. Thought
That is what I was doing. If I misinterpreted your comment,
My apologies.

I buy a lot from US Plastic for work, never thought to look for
Styrene! Seems simple enough (insert the "duhh" sound here).

Thanks,
