I picked this kit up just for kicks. So far it has been a fun little thing to work on. Not very many parts and easy to build. I'm actually building a diorama base for it as well. My first time ever attempting to do any groundwork of any kind.

I tried to do a wood finish inside with a woodstain pen. It came out ok. But will mostly be hidden by the crew,

The engine still needs some dry brushing. But it has some nice texture that looks like cast iron.

My first groundwork ever. Everything came from the backyard. I sifted the dirt as best I could. I tried to add a plant to the bottom of the wall.

Close up of wall with helmet on top. This will all be covered in snow at some point.

I think I need to add another row of rocks to make the wall a bit higher.

That looks like a wall a farmer would build to get the rocks out of the middle of the field. I'd leave it as is. Great work, you make it look easy! :popcorn

Thanks guys. So what would you use for snow? I was thinking about trying just plain old baby powder. That was kind of what I was trying to go for with the wall Moon. I kind of like this groundwork building. I've never done it but it really isn't that hard to do. Now of course adding terrain is a whole different story.

I thought I'd post an update to this build. So far I've got the main body painted and did some weathering to it. I tried to get it nice and dirty. Kind of like what you see with tractors and such.

I also started on the snow. It was still drying in these photos so it looks a bit odd.

After the snow. This is just one layer of snow. It will take a few more but I like the look so far.

Decided to add a K98 rifle to liven it up. Just need to cover it in a bit of snow.

Thanks guys. I ended up using baby powder of all things for the snow. I just thinned down some white school glue with a bit of water and then brushed that on the base and the sprinkled on the baby powder. I then let it dry and removed the excess and saved it for the next layer of snow. What is crazy to me is the fact this thing is nothing more then a plywood box with skies and a gun :gogo Talk about a way to go to war, in your own coffin lol. I added the german helmet and K98 so it looked like at some time in the past a guy just sat down for a minute and left his gear behind on the long retreat back towards Germany.

Very cool and so simple. Might have to go to the store for some baby powder sometime soon. Thanks for the tip (y) (y)

Here is the latest update for the Aerosan. I've got the kit all together and one figure painted and finished up. I will say that figure painting is not my specialty. Couple of things I have noticed with this kit. You can basically leave off everything on the front of the engine. It can't be seen at all and doesn't fit in the compartment that well. Also make sure to sand the control arms down a bit as they don't fit that well if you don't. But other then those few small things it has been a great kit

Here is the gunner all painted up and ready to go. I still need work on my figure painting but I think he looks ok.

The gunner inside of the finished Aerosan. You will notice there are a few cracks in the snow. I think it must have been from the glue shrinking as it dried. But I just added a bit of glue to those areas and put more snow there and it seemed to have worked.

I didn't notice the cracks but it looks good, Make sure you get some tracks behind those skies. (y)

Contrails? Oh, you meant the skis! :rotf

I think the sled is looking very good and the figures will make it even better. What did you use for the snow? (y)

I added some tracks into the last layer of snow I did. I will post pictures of the finished product later today.

Iron Mike I used Baby Powder of all things. It makes for some cheap snow. And it won't turn yellow like baking powder, unless you like yellow snow :pilot
