1/35 laffly amd 80 by DES KIT

this is my latest. this is a resin model of the french laffly amd80 armoured car. the model is from des resins and is a very very good kit. the fit is equal to if not superior to most commercial plastic kits around and the detail is fine and accurate. the kit went together without any major problems and additional detail needed was minimal

the model was primed using plasticote sandable grey primer straight from the can. i use this type of sprey as i find it sprays evenly and thin it also gives me a strong etched surface to work on.

next the model was given a rough overall slightly metallic dark brownish grey irregulal coating and lowlights in black with enamel paints. i havnt used enemels for a long time and forgot how much they smelled. the running board was also painted in a wood tone colour. i used enamels so that i will not have to seal the model with matt since some areas, notably running board and hatches, etc are to be given the hairsprey technique together with latex masking for scratches and weathering, the underside was given a browner tone .

after applying hairsprey with airbrush i started layering thin coats of tamiya nato green acrylic, than using darkened base colour to create shadows and lightned base colour to creat highlights

next the scribble camouflage was applied using acrylic i do have some oversprey but this will almost certainly be unnoticed once weathering is applied, so no need to go into all the trouble of cleaning up the said overspray.

finished scratching the model gave it a light satin coat and added decal. once dry i will apply my decal concoction to remove silvering film and the worst part of it all wait until everything is bone dry

Hey Alex,

DES has always been in the top resin casters anywhere. Their quality is suburb, but a little difficult to find worldwide.

That was a great job of detailing and building it! The airbrushing job was very skillful!

I am anxious to see it finished!

WOW
Very nice workmanship.
The camo pattern is spot on .

Overall great effort on this little beauty.

Thanks
Michael

You are a fast in construction and painting! It looks very nice with this camo!

Could you scratch the paint easily off with the hairspray techniqe? When I use this technique and spray two or more coats over the HS, it gets really difficult to get the paint off...

Looking forward to see more!

i rarely if ever have problems with removing paint on the contrary the problem is not to remove too much. i use water based hairsprey over a clear/satin covered basecoat so that the hairspray has very little grip if you want. i use bain de terre hairsprey which i usually apply with an airbrush

Alex,
Sweet looking French armored car.
Love the paint job. I'll bet it's a little hefty in weight
with all that resin? Looks really nice, you did a great job.
Thanks for sharing.
Shawn

Alex I love armored cars and yours is just great! Can't wait to see more.

unfinished business

i have to shamefully say that its been a long time since i posted anything over this place.and boy going through the site i have certainly missed some wonderful work. hopefully having settled most of my day to day problems i promise to do my best to be more active. that over now i have some unfinished business from about seven month ago.

the model was first aged using the usual mix of oils and pigments
