1/16th scale sFH 18 Howitzer

Here is a quick little update as I finished with the gearbox and have the 14 tie downs added. I think it is now finally ready for final primer and paint.

I removed the crank handle in order to more easily do the modifications. I decided to put it back on at an angle.

Just a quick note as I posted about getting some tests. Was having issues and discomfort in my right kidney area. Turns out that there wasn't anything major wrong with anything internal (YAY on that!) What I was having was some fluid retention in the ducts from the kidney(s) going down to the bladder for some reason. That goes along with some other things I have noticed, but is good news and I can deal with it. Now to see a urologist and will go from there. So all is good and I can keep going full tilt.
Getting old sucks, but I am still enjoying stuff so off to the races.

Well, I quit drinking the Arizona southern style sweet tea in cans and my back has quit bothering me. Instead of waking up and it aching, I wake up and "might" feel a slight hint, just enough to say "Am I feeling something there?". Meh.
Yeah, feeling better, good thing! Also went to Pure Talk and got the lifetime $29.29 unlimited talk text & data. They were a LOT easier to deal with and was able to EASILY talk to ACTUAL PEOPLE! AT&T had my account number so screwed up that it was a pain to get transferred over. Saving about $35 a month on the phone now. Internet will be next as AT&T has been jacking around with that too. I think the lifetime thing can be signed up for until Nov 15th. It ended up being fairly easy and is going to save me some decent cash in the long run.

But you don't really care about all that eh folks. Here is a quick update on one last little mod that needed doing to the traverse crank back plate.

I think the mods are now done. Time for primer and paint.

As I stated earlier it was paint time this weekend.
Discovered a minor goof "after" laying the paint, but it will only involve cleaning and repainting 4 parts. As I now have "practice" on the candy cane color application, it should be a bit easier. Besides I want the paint that is on the rest of it to set up a bit before adding some lighter grey to "bleach" out the dark grey. That is going to be an interesting prospect as I have not really done much of that so far.
The biggest issue with painting the main assembly is all the nooks, crannies, and odd areas where I had to squirt grey to cover the red primer. As it sits now any primer that is still showing was missed by the painters in the factory.

I took a flashlight to it in order to see where I had red paint still showing. I don't know how many times I refilled my medium airbrush cup, but it used 2/3 to 3/4 of a Vallejo bottle. Paint went on well and seems to be holding decent, so I am going to let it dry for several days now except for the 4 parts I need to correct. and anything that will get hand painting.

I started looking at the rods on the sides and they are wrong. Too small diameters on the large ones and the smaller ones are slightly small, way too short and the mounts on all the parts are completely fictitious. :bash: :bang head Why should I expect otherwise.
So it will be even more mods on the trails. Some of which I have already started. The large rods I am going with some Evergreen 3/16th tubing and making the large rods. I suspect they are some kind of pry levers of some sort. The smaller rods are pointed on the ends and those ends fit into these cup mounts. They have (from what I have counted) 11 red and white stripes on them they are supposed to be about an inch (on the model) longer than they are and should be a bit thicker as well. I am using 1/8th Evergreen rod to make them. I made the cup mounts already and the rear mounts are somewhat simple, but will be a bit of a challenge to make. All the mounting holes for these are now plugged with white plastic and new mounts will be made.

I am so close to getting this to a done point, but just could not get myself to work on it.

I have been on a bit of a downer this weekend. I did go out and chop back the bush that was the Crepe Myrtle in the back yard yesterday. Last Saturday I did the big job of chopping back the two LARGE holly bushes in the front. Trimmed up the sides and took about a foot off the tops so now I don't need a ladder. That and the fact that Walter Koenig and Sir Patrick Stewart passed away this week has bothered me.

I so enjoyed the short Picard series that I have watched it several times.

Finally the election is Tuesday and so much is all effed up these days. with the indoctrinated pink haired useful idiots running around calling everyone that doesn't agree with them a Fascist or Nitzi or something else even though for the most part they have no clue what they are talking about.
You just can't fix stupid.
Sorry for the rant, I'm just in a downer mood and it won't get better till Wednesday at the earliest. Nothing I can do about anything at this point.

Hopefully things will pick up a bit this week and I will get some of my go juice back.

I also have notice that the ridiculously expensive 1/32nd Do17Z kit is on the way, YAY! Getting that should hopefully help. I thought it was coming to the house, but sent the address correction to them and then found 2 messages in my spam box this weekend where they asked for the work address, and where they received it and were sending it.

Edit:
Just checked, it is in New York and has been released from customs. Which means it should show up this week maybe in the next couple of days.
I saw a partial unboxing of the kit and it is FULL of 3D printed parts, engines, and all kinds of stuff.
