    Tamiya keeps upping the ante.

They are knocking it out of the park with these new scanned figures. I'm hooked.

The digital recasters: the death of garage kits.

I stopped selling the 1/16 heads to the UK based on the attitude the RC tanker community openly embraced. Since there was a large group interested, I suggested I could save them shipping by bundling them and sending to one address since they all attended the same shows. They said 'no matter...

    Anyone build a Zoukei-Mura kit?

To fill out my need to build Horikoshi designs (have the Wingsy Type 96 and Tamimy Zero), I was looking at a Raiden. I came across Zoukei-Mura and was amazed at the sprue shots and reviews. I'm particularly interested in the canopy frame being separate from the glazing. I hear they are very...

A serious attempt at 1/35 faces.

Thanks again Bob, way too kind. Yeah, I worked with a guy about 30 years who would ask every perspective sculptor one question 'Can you draw?' If they answered yes, he'd hire them. If they said, 'no', 'not my thing' or some other reason, no matter how nice a portfolio, he'd pass on them. It's...

The digital recasters: the death of garage kits.

This is a recast of a Jeff Yagher sculpt. They 3D scan a kit, then print out copies to sell. The difference between this and the older scum that recasted is now there is no physical store or Ebay shop that can be shut down or otherwise held accountable. It's just files emailed to anyone...

    Franz von Werra's Bf109 E4

I admire your precision and attention to detail. In terms of resin, I'd recommend Smooth-On. I don't know if they are more expensive than hobby shop offerings, but they are the industry standard and I haven't had an issue with any of their products going back 30 years. Urethane resin is very...

    Thinning Vallejo paint for airbrushing

I bought a crapload of 5-15ml eyedropper bottles (same as the 17ml Vallejo ones) cheap on Ebay. I take one, drop a stainless BB in it, fill it halfway with Model Color (about 60% with Model Air) and top it off with AB thinner. Works for mixes too, I haven't bought new paint in probably 7 years...

A serious attempt at 1/35 faces.

Thanks all. Saul, that's why I did this without primer, when I primed it first, the entire face was covered with those. It may not be visible to the naked eye, but under magnification, the tiniest overspray looked like 80 grit sandpaper. While it may not make a difference with some methods, my...

All Righty ... What's on the bench today?

I'm all about the Japanese engines apparently, I bought the 1/72 Tammy Zero while waiting on the ox cart carrying my Wingsy Type 96 from the Ukraine. SO, as you all know how the modeling gods work, as soon as the Zero showed up, guess what followed a day or two later. And then my wife asked...

Aren't these new Tammy figures amazing. I'd put them up against any resin kit out there.

    Moebius 1/10 Death Dealer

Nice one Paul! I have it, built it, got bogged down in wanting to change the chainmail and put it back in the box like an idiot. You may have jolted me out of my slumber, since what I want to do can be done outside without any equipment.
