A serious attempt at 1/35 faces.

Thanks guys. Nice one Paul. Mine has the third port, it's just not installed on that earlier photo. I ended up getting an adapter for my Canon as opposed to a camera specific to it and I'm glad I did because live view on the Rebel gives me a lot of control. Those photos were taken with it. I...

    Fine Molds 1/48 A7M1

I got it used for $32 in paperback, so not too bad. Looking forward to it. After it sits and de-CVIDs for a couple of days once it gets here.

Just ordered a copy. My wallet does not thank you. I however, do. I love books like this. Always want to hear from the source.

    Tamiya word of warning

It did a better job moving that primer. The AH at 2mm still does a great job with thinned Vallejo color.

    Fine Molds 1/48 A7M1

Very nice. I have the disc of 'The Wind Also Rises', but I don't remember ever knowing his actual designs.

    Tamiya word of warning

Mostly needle size. I have three Iwatas, ranging from the AH at 2mm up to the TH at 5mm. I always used them for the size of the model, not the paint an project. So when I went to prime the 1/35 heads, I grabbed the small HP-AH for the quick color change. Very thin Vallejo ploy primer, shot it...

A serious attempt at 1/35 faces.

Thanks Gents! Yep John, they're the only way for me to even consider painting at this scale. I have a great Zeiss headloupe I used to use for sculpting, but the inspection scope is a whole nutter level.

A serious attempt at 1/35 faces.

No excuses anymore, I'm putting in the time to learn this. Starting with the eyes, I skipped primer and sprayed a light coat of very thin Vallejo Natural Flesh with the Iwata HP-AH, 2mm @ under 10 PSI. Next I defined the eyes with Ivory using a Series 7 000 brush. Then black for the iris...

    Tamiya word of warning

Yeah, Tamiya acrylics are ether based, they paint great, but I just wasn't into the fumes anymore. Acrylic is a broad stroke, not necessarily water based although we generally tend to think of them as. It took a bit of an adjustment to get water based acrylics like Vallejo to work as well...

All Righty ... What's on the bench today?

Sweet. I'm taking a real crack at 1/35 faces. I picked up a few sets of the new Tamiya figures, they really are pretty impressive. Here's the least interesting sculpt, I figured it was the best one to tackle first. A bit of a mess, but I'm getting there. It's definitely a learning experience.

NEW RFM SHERMAN!!!! RELEASE DATE IS MAY!

Oh yeah. I bought their Easy 8 and it's easily the nicest armor kit I've seen. The most crisp tooling up there with Flyhawk and Bandai. I'm working on a Fury for the base for a figure set I'll sculpt.
