Big Freeze

Huh, Cold Lake is the second coldest place on Earth today with somewhere in Ontario being the coldest. For those that lost power today here and other snowy places, I hope you got it back quickly. For those that had to go out in this much, sorry, especially in the South for those not used to the snow.

How cold is it in Airmont, NY (no snow yet)?

Dog released steam power and it was quite visible! Reminded me of the Me-163 Farting Flea insignia!

Replace flea with pup!

Dang James, that's cold. Y'alls utilities are all buried right?

My electrician came by. Refused money, said he didn't want his name associated with this job. :rotf

Yep, that's a 30amp cable coming out of the panel and it goes to the plug for my generator (that's due delivery tomorrow). Hey, at least he put warning labels and interlocks on it!
He's going to quote me out replacing some hardware outside and installing 100 amp with a dedicated connection and interlock for generator. This will get us by.
Fingers crossed!

Started the evening at a balmy 23F (6:00pm). At 9pm we are at 10F. And the wind has picked up a wee bit. We do have a whole house in demand generator (one of the pleasure of living in Vermont) and 1000 gallons of propane in the tank so I’m pretty confident we won’t lose power - haven’t once since installing the dang thing, so not so cheap insurance? Just in case we keep a cord of wood in the basement and we have 2 wood stoves. We also have two propane gas fire places with battery back up. I hope you all fair well!

My electrician installs those systems for folks, we talked about it for here and I just don't see the justification for the expense. If we were out in the sticks that would be one thing but we're right on a feeder line that runs out two state highways. We'll get our power on pretty quick if it goes out. Besides, the hurricane last year took out the weak trees.
I'm really hoping this turns out to be just a cold rain for us.
