"Easy Pickins"

Calling it Done!

After 13 long years, off and on, this baby is finally finished. I’ve eliminated every item from the punch list and can’t see doing any more to it. No sense in beating a dead horse, right? I’ll be taking final photos within days and posting all the detailed shots when they’re cleaned up. My photo bench is being stretched for this base, it’s taxing my ingenuity to get decent shots without going out of bounds. Not only that, I’ve got 1/2” clearance to fit this beast into the curio cabinet when I’m done, it’s a very tight fit.

This has been a fun run, and sometimes a bit frustrating, but mostly a good time. I always said from the beginning that I don’t recall seeing any 200mm dios posted anywhere, so why not do one myself. I think that still holds true, but who knows. At any rate, I am happy to see this through to the end.

Thank you all for your continued support, encouragement, and suggestions along the way. Final photos coming soon.

Cheers, Ski.

Can't wait to see the finished photos! I could arrange to get some higher resolution images uploaded on our website if you like. Just got to figure out how to get them to me. Maybe dropbox or something.

Good to see it finished Steve! I am sure that you have quite a sense of accomplishment on this after all this time.
Thanks, Brother, and yes Sir, most definitely. I'm not going to fall into post model-dum depression over this pig. So, the next kit is on deck, Trumpeter's A-37B Dragonfly, 1/48 scale, then back to figures, American Indian sets with smaller, much smaller foot prints, HA!.

Thanks MP, and thanks for the offer. I'm thinking that 620-720- width would work ok, my max usually being 620. The trick is to get the lighting just right and having room for my camera to get in there to take the pics. My photo bench is being accosted by the size of this base, so that will take some planning as well. I recon nothing new, because I usually take quite a few pics just to get a few decent ones anyway. I can zap you a few pics PM and see if you think they will be ok.

Thanks, Gents! Cheers, Ski.

Thank you, Gents! The photos shoot got delayed by unforeseen circumstances, as it happens to be, so the tung oil goes on today, pics hopefully done by the weekend. I can foresee snapping quite a few just to get some really good close-ups. I'll get the pics posted as soon as I can, and thanks for following along, Gents!

Weather Delays

I apologize for the final photos not getting posted, the weather has not been a friend this time around. So why the delay, just snap the pics, right?

Photos for this dio must be taken in natural lighting for the best final effect, outside, cloudy mornings. Set up and break down on a base of this size is not an easy task to repeat every time there is an interruption. I need clam early morning cloud cover, or fog, and those days are dwindling fast this year, with the forecast not being very useful at all. If it’s not cloud breaks hitting suddenly, camera white balance inoperability, sudden wind gusts, or even sprinkling, it’s the temperature.

To cover a dio this size I usually end up with 50-60 photos or more at the 22-20 aperture range, but I will include 18 to gather more light, but I will also lose some focus. It’s a crap shoot, but can’t be helped. I hate white washed pics, so I am trying to avoid that.

At any rate, 13yrs to completion, what’s another month or two for photos, right? So, after three attempts I was able to get six photos. Yep, just six, and here’s a teaser for ya. The rest will happen when the weather cooperates.

Thank you for your patience, I will get this done soon, I hope. Cheers, Ski.

Only thing I see that stands out off, is the cat tails green is too green. It looks like plastic (which it is). Other than that it looks perfect. All the other colors, leaves, grass, figures are perfect. Do a few photos in B&W and a person would be very hard pressed to tell it is a model.

Praying to the weather gods for ya Steve. :hummm:
Thanks, Brother. The lighting crew has greater seniority than I, so I will wait, HA!

Negative, Ghost Rider, the Pattern is full! Nope, they are not plastic, they are paper, wire and putty with fine grain sand on top. No worries, ain't nothing, and I mean nothing, changing now. Great idea, I should do some black and whites for the heck of it, why not? This will all look better when I get "all" the pics snapped.
