1/700 Confederate Raiders CSS Alabama, CSS Florida

I made this lattice, so you can trim it down to make the mizzen mast lattice frame for your CSS Alabama. The original idea was to carefully sand this down to the framework for scale thickness. Installing it upside-down shows off the proper detail without so much fuss.
This same basic mast lattice will be included in Bluenose and CSS Florida kits.

Properly measured masts with upper platforms. The mizzen ratlines may have to be reconsidered.
TIP: Remember to leave your lower mast parts long enough to fit in the mounting holes in the main deck!
Thanks again for lookin' in, fellers!

Ice storm days are great model making days! It is a good time to stay home, keep warm and.....

.......make Ice Storm Roast! Our new crockpot is big enough to slow-cook a small child. The days of worrying about buying a chuck roast that is too big are gone! Teresa like a little beef with her potatoes. When the belly-button pops out, it's suppertime!

Assembling 1/700 Confederate Navy Raider kits are underway. "The Build" is the tool used to make use of less than perfect castings I won't sell anyone, write instructions and play with all the model ships I make in the name of "website business". Ain't I a stinker?! I put the Model Master wood tan on the decks to see how CSS Alabama's scribed deck compared to CSS Florida's wood plank deck. Not too shabby.

Dam them torpeeders! Full speed ahead Mr. Kell!
Thanks again for havin' a look-see!

One more day of taters, roast and Vienna Krispy Krust bread, and then stew!
It was so hot, meaty and good, I can feel my hair growing. Both of them!

We had Pizza this week end so it's salads tomorrow. But I got a mind for a good beef stew next weekend.

I can get my Sweetie to eat vegetables, if I make soup. Our new neighbors grow Bok-choi, Japanese red mustard leaf and arugula in a hydroponic farm. I'm sure these are wonderful, but we had to give away what they brought us. We don't "Salad" much.

CSS Florida in her initial paint. A plethora of cannon and resin parts are packaged, metal kit parts will be assembled by hand for each ship in the Raider set. Sail and mast plans have been measured and instructions near completion.
The real fun is about to start!

A little more paint and wep's test fit. My pivot guns would fit better if they were stowed. My pivot guns are always cleared for action.

CSS Florida mast test fit. The upper mast platforms came out swell and the ratlines should land on the masts just right.
She already looks fast.
I always wanted a model of CSS Florida. I've read every account of her cruises, capture and sinking I can find. When she's finished, Florida will be as lovely as she is swift and deadly. I believe Captain John Newland Maffitt and his brave men would approve of my humble effort.
I took these few pictures of the model progress today. A sensation of happiness and contentment filled me.
I may have just found out what "Stopping Point" feels like.
Ima gonna go make goulash for supper, kiss my wife and help wrap Christmas presents for our family.

It's been a good day!
Wanna learn some more?

"A sensation of happiness and contentment filled me. Ima gonna go make goulash for supper,....."

My attempts with goulash would kill that happiness and contentment no problem :)
